If you’re a fan of Thomas Dolby (I am), seek out the Adam Buxton podcast....he’s had him as a guest a couple of times - interesting man.

The regulations as written serve to enable the undeniable (albeit misguided) aerodynamic genius of Adrian Newey and the result is that many race deciding passes now take place in the pits. The crucial timing and execution of passes are done as often by a computer, often several thousand miles away, as by driving skill. A brave new world or hybrid video game?

True, but there is serious talk about changing/simplyfying the front wings for next season. Also the fuel limit could be scrapped entirely so some good signs. And they really should scrap the 'mission control centres' at the home base. They are ridiculous.

I described the current situation as dismal in response to previous posts suggesting so talented a designer must accede to bad regulations. Edit: The genius of Adrian Newey is remarkable, but not his impact on racing. Because of the primacy of aerodynamics, F1 cars have lost the graceful beauty they once had and can't normally even approach close enough to pass! Where is the achievement? Newey is the one "blinded by science."

Rumor has it that the left-side handlebar curve of Chase Carey's moustache tried to strangle Bernie Eccelstone, who hasn't appeared in the paddock since. Next may be Jean Todt, whose heft makes getting close enough more challenging.

F1 is in need of a serious detox and it has to ditch this insane aero fetish soon. However, Formula One should be the pinnacle of motorsport and should therefore be technically advanced. The problem is most people working in F1 live in a bubble and lose contact with reality and sometimes with the essence of the sport. Aerodynamics on itself is very interesting and we all adore the creations of its pioneers Jim Hall and Colin Chapman. But it has become too important and has a negative influence on the actual racing. The rule makers should fix this. Wasn't it Chris Amon who, after driving for the first time with a wing mounted on his car, said he was afraid they opened Pandora's box with these aero devices? (Correct me if I'm wrong).

Jim Hall and Colin Chapman both dated the seductive Pandora. I don't doubt Amon's foresight; he was quite smart except when deciding to leave Ferrari.
