Jody Scheckter drove his (personally owned) championship 312T4 today at Monza. How wonderful it would have been to see, but at least pit reporter Ted Kravitz elaborated on how beautiful the sight and sounds were.
The producers may have been aware of the historic importance but prevented by contract (or lack of contract), or time constraints, to show any clips. Damn shame either way. Hopefully it will be shown sometime this weekend as a reminder of Formula One's glorious past.

I am sure quite a few middle aged and elder men shed a small tear when Jody passed the grandstands in the T4. That Monza victory remains one of the highlights in Ferrari's history. I was lucky to see the T4 win at Zolder and also race at Zandvoort. Great memories.

Well... that was pathetic.
So tempting to quit watching live... just watch on replay if anything interesting happens.

I was fortunate to see several 312 iterations at Long Beach, including Gilles Villeneuve's win from pole in 1979 with Scheckter second. Great memories indeed!
Forza Forghieri!

Amazing how amateurish the racing scene looked today at Monza.
The Peroni horror crash was so unnecessary and could have ended so much worse. Peroni could have been killed or the car could have landed on the track marshals. Scandalous! What idiot decided to place a sausage kerb on the outside of the super fast Parabolica? The whole idea to keep drivers from exceeding track limits with these artificial tricks is ridiculous. A grass strip and a gravel trap is all that is needed. No rocket science. This idiocy makes me mad.
And then the F1 qualy farce. A multi million dollar show and then this!? I could see it happening when watching. I said to my wife 'why are they waiting so long?'. And when they came out of the variante Ascari with only 30 secs on the clock it was clear it was too close. With 400 people behind a computer at the home base! Is there really noone on the pitwall with a bit of common sense who says 'hurry up!'? Grrrr...
Anyway.. pffff... on a positive note; another pole position for Charles Leclerc! Forza Ferrari!

An equally horrifying accident at the Parabolica involved the Lotus of Derek Warwick in 1990. After a miraculously benign sequence of severe blunt force, Warwick was virtually uninjured and even jogged the short distance to the pits to be fitted into the spare car. I was watching the race live, very early in the morning. The fright woke me up immediately.
Warwick is one of the race stewards at Monza and Peroni's accident may have prompted him to involuntarily recall his own.

as I refuse to watch sxy I watched the highlights on utub with considerable amusement, formula farcical is here to stay, honestly, what the blue blazes was that about, Moto3 made F1 look pathetic, sheer stupidity -
so relieved the young man walked away from what could have been a terrible accident and no spectators or marshals were injured, pure luck,
Carl, I remember vividly Del's accident and Ayrtron checking up on him, which did make me smile a bit, and of course Derek, straight back into the spare,

Who doesn't remember that crash! Amazing how fast he got out but that was probably adrenaline. Very cool though.

Here's some more classic Ferrari success, a remastered video of the 1979 South African Grand Prix. Really very nice. Rob, where you there?

Right after the race I saw an interview with Sebastian on German television. It was painful and I really felt for him but all credits for his honesty and the fact he even showed up. He could only say it was his mistake and he looked really sad. The contrast with Charles and the celebrations could not have been bigger. It was really a case of 'the King is dead, long live the King'. As I said before the race, I hoped Seb would do well. But in all honesty, I don't believe Sebastian would have handled the pressure from both Mercedes guys the way Charles did. Charles is now No. 1 at Ferrari and Italy's new hero. Nothing can change that now.
