The tension between Mercedes and Ferrari is increasing with every race. Hockenheim is the home race for Mercedes but also for Sebastian Vettel. Who will have more support in Germany after the Silverstone wrangle? It will be close for sure between the top 2 teams, or maybe 3 if Red Bull finds the right set-up. Plenty of Dutch fans there for sure including myself, although I will be wearing red! ;-) The new banner image is in honour of a driver who has not featured here before and who will evoke mixed emotions but there's no denying his quality as a driver and all that he achieved. The picture shows Michael winning at Hockenheim in 2006. I hope we'll see the same image on sunday afternoon with Sebastian! I won't spend much time on the forum the coming week as I will enjoy a short holiday trip with my wife and go to Hockenheim with my brother in law after that. So y'all behave! Jos the Boss on fire!

that is one scary picture
Stirling, who knows a lot better than I when asked about Ayrton and Michael and why he would never put them in the bracket of Fangio, Ascari or Jimmy referred to their intimidatory practices, which, after all given their talent was just so uneccessary
I had the pleasure of meeting Michael in 1995 and he was just such a good bloke, no airs no graces but then when you read how he treated others it makes you wonder, but a driven talent

Ronnie Peterson, Tyrrell P34B - Ford, 1977 German Grand Prix, Hockenheimring © Hoch Zwei Rene,
A sublime photograph of a superb natural talent in his element, although not his favorite car, nonetheless perfectly relaxed at speed, having coaxed his difficult mount into a favorite attitude, I suppose in this case a slight six-wheel drift.
I hope you see comparable greatness at Hockenheim.
Cheers, Carl

have a lovely break Rene - enjoy and have fun! I've arranged for Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel to slow briefly during the race and wave to Rene and his brother-in-law in the grandstand. Rene needs to pay attention and quickly return the salute.
It would be awkward if at that moment our administrator is in line to buy beer.

The most obvious freedom during Free Practice 2 was that of David Croft's mouth. Why are drama queens chosen to announce motorsport? This is a worldwide phenomenon that makes sense only if racing fans are as stupid as the network executives are ignorant about their audience.
The commentary in the announcers' booth was insipid throughout, making Formula One seem dull. Martin Brundle is outstanding, but even he is affected by the anesthetizing David Croft and Paul Di Resta. I was glad I had taped the session and could fast forward into fresh air at times.
Leigh Diffey, who announces IndyCar on NBC Sports Channel, is better organized and informed but just as melodramatic and annoying. His colleagues, Townsend Bell and Paul Tracy, somehow remain calm when he goes hyperbolic and it would be nice if the mute button could target individuals.

I’m unashamedly hoping for a Merc win here to keep the back and forth going a little longer. Ferrari will be strong though, they don’t usually show their hand on Fridays so we'll see....... Red Bull victory is a possibility as well and it’s good that the result at each round is far from a foregone conclusion this year 👍
It’s telling that I’m very disappointed there is no F2 round in Germany though 😡
