As it so hot outside probably 30+ C ... Here, on the other side of the Earth, we have also had some really hot days - and sleepless nights, due to the heat) but we can be grateful for typhoon #7 for cooling things down quite a bit :-) Here typhoons are not given names, just numbers, due to the sheer ... number of their presence.
Typically of the Uk media which i access here in France there has been no mention of your typhoons Mikael, the news feeds in the Uk are far more interested in trivia. I think the naming of such things is a stupid recent idea which grates; numbering them is far more adult and mature. The thought of you getting such makes my grumbling about our high temperatures seem pretty insignificant, although it is unseasonably hot here in Northern France and the UK. there is talk of it becoming a summer like 1976 which was the one us older (that seems so odd to describe oneself) people talk about, and has gone down in UK folk law. I sincerely hope that it isn't a repeat of that for as someone who has a small farm and animals etc to look after it isn't good. JC

JC, it was sincerely not my intention to top - it was really just a casual (and naive, I know now) remark that I was relieved that the temperature here has come down a bit. On Fridays I have a morning class and I work late too, to "finish off" the week; so I had not seen the national news and I was not aware of the severe conditions in the Hiroshima area where the typhoon caused severe floods. Here where we live, in the Northern part of the Honshu island, quite close to Sendai, the typhoons typically have lost their strength when they pass by, and this one was no different. Thus here in this area, the effect of the typhoons is actually often positive (in lowering the temperature a bit). Saturday I watched no news either - only this morning did I find out how bad it looks around Hiroshima (which is the Southernmost part of Honshu). It's a sad situation.
But I checked the Danish news on the internet on Friday and it was said that the trought is the worst since 1970, and it's a dilemma for the farmers. It seems to be the same all over Europe.
With the best of wishes Mikael

Your most recent typhoon made the radio news here this morning. Over 30 dead and 40 missing, extensive flooding and landslides, that's intense weather. I hope you're well out of it.
Jim, thank you very much for your kind concern. As I just mentioned to JC, here in the Northern part of the Honshu area, the effect of the typhoon has actually only been a positive one. But the situation in the Hiroshima/Chukoku area (the Southernmost part of the Honshu Island) is indeed severe and sad.

Righty-oh. That was sort of fun.
Vettel couldn't possibly let Bottas get away with it, or he should have called it quits there and then. Shame for Lewis, but he will come on top alright at the end.

Yes, a very good race, well worth the watch, the final four laps in particular.
The last two races before the summer break will be interesting, with this balance in the championship battle.

Mikael, No fear I did not take it as topping. In fact it just made me realise that there is no comparison between the destruction of a typhoon and just the difficulties of a heatwave, conditions that many nations have every year. It is good to know that you were not in the heart of the typhoon. I was unsure how far this heatwave had spread in Northern Europe but from what René was saying recently it had been much the same in Holland, so understandably it was the same for Scandinavia. I believe it is the Suzuka Superbike Endurance race next weekend and that is usually very hot indeed. I have just watched the Knockhill BSB round and some of the riders were flying out straight away to japan to take part. JC

An eventful and at times spectacular race with a well deserved winner and a bitter aftertaste.
Never before was the difference between the big three and the rest so stark as here in Silverstone. And never before was the speed difference between the big two and Red Bull so evident. It was almost like a WEC race with three different classes. Nonetheless an interesting race and the image at the end of the two Mercs and two Ferraris going full throttle through Maggots and Becketts was mind blowing.
Sebastian was on form today and his pass on Bottas was world class. A great victory. Lewis drove a good recovery race, much helped by two safety cars but nevertheless a fine drive.
-
After the race Lewis makes a remark about 'interesting tactics' from Ferrari and not much later Wolff and Allison are raising the questions if this was deliberate or incompetence from Ferrari's part.
I find this outrageous and obscene. Mercedes has dominated the sport with an unfair advantage for years and now that finally Ferrari has them by the balls, they are acting like spoiled little children. They are the worst losers imagineable. They actually dare to suggest that all of this, the French GP and now this was a deliberate plan by Ferrari to sabotage their results. The idea alone to suggest that Kimi would deliberatly take Lewis out is sick.
When Lewis did not join Seb and Kimi on the grid with Martin Brundle after the race, Nico Rosberg (who is a pundit for German RTL) already expressed his disbelieve why Lewis was acting so melodramatic after a good race. And then these remarks about Ferrari doing this on purpose.
I can't find the right words to express how disappointed I am with all of this but I sincerely hope Mercedes does not win a race again, ever.

Looking forward to this afternoon immensely actually, thanks to it being so close at the front. I really hope for a great race in glorious sunshine. Not going this year due to it clashing with my wife’s 40th birthday BBQ but will sneak off and find the TV, settle down with a couple of cold beers and a grilled steak and enjoy the race. It’s blisteringly hot in the UK at the moment (you only need to see the scorched earth at Silverstone where there is usually lush green) so tyres will probably be a factor, I think the Ferrari is quicker but I hope Lewis wins this one to continue the back and forth at the head of the championship. Jamie, Hope you were able to see the final very exciting laps. You were right about tyres being a factor, Pirelli's love for center stage apparent at every practice session, and essentially right about the winner. Well done!
Cheers, Carl

Does anyone ever see these two teams recreating old glories now? I imagine only Claire Williams and Zak Brown at their respective board meetings. I hope they somehow succeed. Eddie Jordan has retained the skills he had in a previous existence as a standout circus clown, but also makes occasional good sense.

I missed all that. Very poor indeed, in that case.
Allison too? That is the same genius - according to Hughes, who's in the Nobel prize committee - who couldn't make a decent car at Ferrari, before Marchionne quickly saw through him? Mmm, I better not comment, then.
Unfair advantage, definitely. Just like Brawn in 2009 who won thanks to an illegal diffuser in the first half of the season, exploiting a loophole before it was plugged.

It may be that Toto and James Allison are relieved to have Hamilton's paranoia directed at another team. Malaysia 2016: "My questions are to Mercedes – we have lost so many engines," Hamilton told the BBC after the race. "There are eight drivers with Mercedes engines and mine are the only ones to fail. "Someone has to give me some answers and it is not acceptable. "Something or someone doesn't want me to win this year."

I am afraid Hamilton has to blame himself for that start, that is where it all began. Once he failed to lead and was caught in the melee of the first few curves, everything could - and did - happen.

Incidentally - it is indeed the case eh eh - I had time before the GP to catch live Norris shamelessly kicking out of the F2 race Antonio Fuoco and even get praised by the embarrassing British (cockney, more like) commentators...

Arrivabene on Allison (from Gazzetta dello Sport): Amusing.

I actually watched it, and didn't fall asleep, two strange occurences, and the third was the difference in performance, ouch, Division one, Merc and Ferrari, Div 2 Red Bull, Div 3 most of the thers and Div 4 Williams, I couldn't get excited about Lewis's drive as it just looked so easy, and then his luck went well, with the two safety cars and then the whinging - fortunately by then I had had enough of the 'issues' and blame culture so didn't hear the crassness of Merc.
the good side? phew, those two huge accidents could have been very serious, especially Ericson;s so thak you to safety and well done Ferrari and the Hulk,
the bad side? well, apart from the usual moans groans and displeasure is what I have been reading above, of all the things leveled at Kimi dirty driving is not one of them, bad driving isn't another, bothered about politics another, or just bothered about other racers ego's - this is just pathetic and reeks, maybe Merc and Lewis have been watching Neymar and think this is how one behaves....
