Reading this article made clear that: 1. Elizabeth Blackstock either wrote very fast or should enroll in Remedial English 2. The 22 opinions she solicited comprise a far too small sample 3. My opinion of Josef Newgarden hasn't changed very much. He's an excellent driver with an aggressive side that sometimes targets even teammates. His pass of Simon Pagenaud at Gateway was dirty driving. 4. I'm happy to have been totally unaware of his idiotic enterprises in social media. 5. Why would Newgarden and McLaughlin play bullyboy mindgames with David Malukas?
6. If gossip wasn't so lucrative, it would be restricted to adolescent girls. 7. My media producer has never heard of me.

It wasn't a journalistic highlight, I agree, but I did recognize the described struggle that fans have with what happened.
He is and remains a very good driver, it's just a shame that he got dragged into things that don't reflect well on him.

Editors can be demanding...
Why does a driver with Newgarden's level of talent need a media producer? It's possible he accepted bad advice throughout his career (social media and youtube nonsense), but in the end, unless he was following team orders, what he did in St. Petersburg is on him. His awkward explanation, an audition for martyrdom, made no sense. Roger Penske absolved himself (imagine that), so subordinates get the blame. Sports heroes are worshiped. We all have heroes. Cheating turns that on its head and leaves fans unable to understand that their heroes have feet of clay. I still believe Sophia Loren walks on clouds high above ordinary mortals...
