Grand Prix of St. Petersburg - FloridaA full racing weekend with the start of the IndyCar championship. The American racing series starts in the streets of St. Petersburg, so action is guaranteed! The cars haven't changed much, but it always takes some getting used to new color schemes. Also a few rookies and some drivers have changed teams. Looking very much forward to this race! 2024 IndyCar drivers and teams Abel Motorsport50. R. C. Enerson (Indy 500) A.J. Foyt Racing14. Santino Ferrucci 41. Sting Ray Robb Andretti Global26. Almost everyone within a second of pole position bodes well for an exciting race. Congratulations to Felix Rosenqvist for setting a new track record during a preliminary session. Indycar and Formula One qualifying are both contrived by broadcast networks for dramatic effect and the NBC commentators were unaware of Felix Rosenqvist's track record pace until the lap was over. Too much excitement, I suppose...

Yes this could be an exciting race. At least five or six possible winners. Rosenqvist clearly feels at home in his new team!

A decent race on a well-designed street circuit that conformed to the established pattern of more passing and passing attempts than Formula One.
Chevrolet has improved its engine and had an advantage over Honda, powering six of the top ten finishers while Honda powered seven of the next ten. Ilmor Engineering, founded in 1986 as a partnership between Swiss-born Mario Illien, British native Paul Morgan, and American billionaire Roger Penske, has built engines for General Motors, Mercedes-Benz and Honda, and achieved success for each. Reuniting with Chevrolet in 2012, significant improvements in the off-season have once again established dominance.

For some reason, broadcast anchor Leigh Diffey kept focusing on recent driver marriages, clearly a sign of dementia

I've not seen the highlights as yet Carl, but it sounded like an entertaining race, and of course St Pete is a good circuit which always helps.
the good news for me is that my man Jack has a seat with Dave Coyne racing - not sure if it is a season long deal just hope it gives Jack a chance to show his worth

I assume that includes road and street circuits.

Dominant win though for Josef Newgarden. He looked in control all weekend. But it would be good if Honda catches up a bit. I also saw the photos of the newly weds. Rinus Veekay stood in front of a nice Ferrari with his new bride.

Yes, only the Indy 500 for the next 14 years sounds unlikely...

Yes, only the Indy 500 for the next 14 years sounds unlikely... Although he's had success on ovals in Indy Lights (now called Indy NXT), Jack Harvey is more comfortable as a road course specialist. However, there are many drivers scheduled to race only at Indy in 2024, among them Marco Andretti, Helio Castroneves, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Takuma Sato, Conor Daly and Ed Carpenter. The old farts like to linger... We will all miss Jimmie Johnson, who proved that stock car championships are not transferable, exhausting Chip Ganassi's patience with a best result of 21st in 30 races

I saw Jack race in the UK and was puzzled why he didn't get any further in the European scene, but was over the moon he got some good drives in the States, I do so hope he does get some success this year I really do believe in his talent - if not I fear this may well be his last opportunity
bizarre - listening to Radio Caroline and Deep Purple playing Beethoven's 9th - ode to joy- wonderful

Indycar sells out to highest bidder
In Thermal, California, on a private track 85 miles southeast of a former world class road course in Riverside, a billionaire boys club has paid to have a private Indycar race televised by NBC but with attendance restricted to members of the Thermal Club and their guests. No spectators from the unwashed multitudes are allowed.
The club has an initiation fee of $175,000, monthly dues of $2,400, and members agree to build a 6,000-square-foot or larger trackside villa within five years. All told, buy-in requires more than $5 million. So far 135 lots have been sold and 75 villas built (with very large garages) and the club hopes to attract more members with its purchase of the event. NBC announcer Leigh Diffey will be at his most unctuous, one reason I don't intend to watch.
I hope Road & Track could send the very clean hands of Kate Wagner where she's needed most.
Missing aviator Amelia Earhart does an exclusive fly-by
Modest third and fourth homes line the track
No shoes allowed on walkways
