it certainly was exciting, and full of incidents, Rookies Lundqvist and Rasmussen need to learn more about ovals before making bold moves.

Nashville is 1.330 miles with faster speeds made possible by high banking and a gently curved front straight.
I don't have a favorite, but it would be nice to have someone deserving in Victory Lane who's never won on an oval.
With his chronic fear of higher gears, only Mickey Mouse enjoys the infield road course

Wow, it’s going to be very interesting. Will Power will start from 4th but Álex Palou only from 24th! He qualified 15th but will start 24th due to a nine-spot grid penalty for an unapproved engine change. This could go either way. Pole position for Kyle Kirkwood by the way…

I assumed qualifying would be later and wonder if they moved it up to avoid the approaching rainstorm. In any case, I'm happy for Kyle Kirkwood... Eleven drivers qualified above 200 mph!

A loose seatbelt! Yep, that’s what decided the IndyCar championship. A loose lapbelt for Will Power early in the race put him immediately out of contention. A shame. So Álex Palou is the new champion, his third title! He’s definitely on his way of becoming one of the Indycar greats! And Colton Herta finally won his maiden oval race with a great late pass on Pato O’Ward! Well deserved.

I'd rather he had a trouble free race, but Will Power has a knack for unusual predicaments. Boarding schools had an unpleasant antidote for public exhibitionism.
The last third of the race, after final stops, were great! Youthful rivals years ago in Indylights, Pato O'Ward and Colton Herta put on a demonstration of excellence, bobbing and weaving as if they were the only ones on track.
Now that he's won on an oval, Colton Herta can relax and appreciate the natural beauty of smooth oval shapes in nature.

Alex Palou is a deserving champion, but why the grotesque ring? The Astor Challenge Cup is named after John Jacob Astor lV (the current John Jacob Astor is LlX), a first class passenger on the Titanic whose identical massive ring caused him to lose balance while waving for a lifeboat, fall overboard and sink.

I never knew until now that Indy 500 winners were given a ring and have only seen one that ridiculous on Liberace. Haven't you heard of... The Code of the West?
A diamond encrusted ring invites suspicion about verifiable manhood Despite his own curious saunter, John Wayne could attest that American mythology rejects male ornamentation. "A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do"

Richard Starkey is the only one entitled to so many rings
I always wanted Helio to be stranded high on a spectator fence
With far more talent than brains, he holds the modern record for avoidable contact
Liberace had a permanent pompadour that could withstand hurricane force wind

For both (Liberace and Castro Neves) the show element was even more important than the actual performance it seemed.

For both (Liberace and Castro Neves) the show element was even more important than the actual performance it seemed. That's true. In different ways, they both craved the spotlight. Castroneves had serious talent and Liberace was a great pianist, so neither one really needed to embellish or exaggerate. Helio Castroneves, now essentially retired, was always very nervous before a race, literally hopping up and down before getting in his car. At Long Beach, he was most likely to bump the car ahead into a spin at the hairpin. He just isn't able to settle down, the rare adult with neurotic hyperactivity disorder. As an aside, I never realized an oversized ring was given to the Indy 500 winner. The one Palou was wearing looks like a biscuit cutter. Who thinks of these things? Liberace was wonderfully nice according to those who knew him; a great pianist for whom the show became more important than the performance. I've always wondered if his wild outfits inspired Elton John, an even more talented musician, also a supreme showman. Which one would be more pleasant to sit next to on a long flight? Castroneves never stops talking. Without a doubt, Liberace would be better company.
