"It's quiet. Too quiet. I have a feeling all hell's gonna break loose. Sleep with one eye open and run out the back if ya hear Interpol sirens."
- John Wayne to Randolph Scott after they'd trashed another bar on Hollywood Boulevard and were planning to stay the night.

To use the word of unfathomable expression; "indeed". And my excuse would be in using the old Colonial English phrase, "Gad the heat"!!

Randolph Scott trashing a bar? surely not he was the good guy, well apart from his last film with the great Joel McCrea and after Randy had taken over Coop's role - following Coops ill-health - memorable still, and neglected
I plead the UK ammendent - I understand it has a better chance than the 5th, as you actually speak but no-one has a clue what you've said, this, I believe is based on our PM's utterances and possibly may find it's way into a certain other country
but it has gone quiet, too damm quiet - i don't like it, something's stirring - now who said that? I wish i knew -

I wish i knew - It's possible he was there to keep the Duke out of trouble. Scandalous behavior was carefully monitored and often altered by studio publicity departments. But without doubt, Ride the High Country is a classic Western and a great paean to the myths of the old West.
Variations of that great line featured in more than one western/war movie when the good guys were nervously waiting for the enemy to attack, also amplifying audience nervousness in the theatre.

Rene,
John Charles noticed recently that thread subjects were mysteriously altered during administrative trials. I have for months noticed another mystery, perhaps more sinister.
When busy at the keyboard, I have seen that as my post count increases, by the same number so do his numbers increase, maintaining a lead which entitles him to more godly privileges and the most beautiful goddesses. I am disgruntled (love that word!) only because the gap stays constant even when John Charles is fast asleep and dreaming of Ann-Margret luxuriously draped in alpaca.

Carl, My keyboard quota is in some way making up for the fact that i am not the most talkative of individuals, much to the other half's displeasure at times . Ann-Margaret is another case completely, back in the day one could spend ages looking at this beautiful woman to the point of distraction. The very thought of her wrapped in a garment made of alpaca fibre has probably put me off from writing anything for the foreseeable future . That combined with Pinterest forcing me to look at images of Deborah Harry circa late 1970's the other evening has made me recourse to the odd glass of Merlot. JC

"Black Magic Woman" by the original Fleetwood Mac with the awesome Peter Green, and then recorded by Carlos Santana which was equally great. .

Ann-Margret, Tina Louise- so many beauties, - and my favourite from that era, Audrey
one of my other interests are classic films, and I enjoy quite a nice collection of films and books, - ahh good days and great stars - although i tend to prefer the 1930's films and stars
John have you heard Peter's FMac live version of BMW? he really lets rip and it is just brilliant, as much as I like Santana, whom i saw at the Albert Hall, I do prefer Peter's version, but then no one does Soul Sacrifice other than Carlos, brilliant

Peter Green was a truly amazing guitarist and I loved all of the early Mac records, what was it on the "Blue Horizon" record label in the UK. It was a crime and tragedy what happened to Peter, and when I saw Jon McVie in a film about The Mac approx 10 years ago you could still see the anger in the man towards those that gave Peter Green the drugs that damaged his mind. It is good that finally he began playing again after so many years of not touching a guitar; he apparently let his fingers nails grow so long that he could not play. Back in the 1980's Peter released an album which was called "In the Skies" and it was initially released in translucent green vinyl, I have a copy in my collection. I always look upon the Santana version as a completely different animal, and think that the "Abraxus" album was fantastic, one of my favourites, and the memories of first hearing it are so fresh even today. There are so many, from countries far and wide. I have always liked French cinema over the decades because they emphasize artistry more than profits.
Tina Louise was certainly beautiful, but she did herself no favors with "Gilligan's Island", one of the truly bad situation comedies. The argument continues over which character was more gorgeous, hers or Dawn Wells' Mary-Anne.
Clark Gable was a lousy actor, delivering every line with the same grinning overconfidence regardless of the setting or situation. Spencer Tracy was every inch the fine actor.
Hollywood has always been a gold-plated facade that enriches the studio bosses and tends to drive true artists away, but it's the artistry that's remembered.
Cut and print! -Carl

Gentleman, to all of you, what an honour it really is to be a part of such a wonderful collection of excellent fellows- merci
John, Abaraxas was one of the first albums I ever bought and still enjoy the CD version, he was just so impressive on his debut at Woodstock, and many years later at the Albert Hall, he really could make that guitar sing, Peter Green, Rory and Paul Kossof were amongst my favourite guitarists and I still listen to them to this day, in fact last year i went to see the lead singer of the backstreet boys with a Paul soundalike playing their stuff, pretty good but not quite as good as the Free stuff
Carl, films have been my great escape, from Prisoner of Zenda, Robin Hood, the Thin Man, Mr Deeds goes to Town, 39 Steps, Scarlet Pimpernell, gosh so so many, the great comedies, Bringing up Baby, my Man Godfrey, the Awful Truth, and then there's the 40's/50's the great noir films, favourite being Murder my Sweet, with another favourite - and of course the great westerns, Shane and High Noon, but I am also an avid fan of International cinema, and the French tend to top this list, the difference being I like their films from the 1930's onwards and still feel they do the best crime films, Tell No One is a sheer classic, so many, really need to update my list of films,
Coop was always my favourite but the likes of Ronald Colman, Leslie Howard, William Powell and Dick Powell, were up there, along with Errol, Cary but ladies wise Irene Dunne and Jean Arthur headed my hit parade, but i do have a real weak spot for French actresses, gorgeous....

Chris, It is an honour all around, such an excellent bunch of chaps, and just a pleasure to enjoy each and others discussion. Talking of guitarists, I was listening to Johnny Walker's "Sounds of the Seventies" on BBC Radio 2 last Sunday, one of the few programs I do listen to now on that station as the rest is so dire. His guest was Elliot Randall who played most of the lead guitar material on the Steely Dan albums; he is rated very highly by most of the greats like Jimmy Page. It was really good listening and he is a very interesting character. Steely Dan are one of my favourite bands, during the 70's I became very "West Coast" in my musical taste with The Eagles and Dooby Bros, along with The Dan and Beach Boys. If you can access the program on iPlayer it is well worth a listen. John

Incredibly, everyone has fallen asleep at the table and collapsed into their custard tarts! There must have been a sleeping potion in the kumquat surprise appetizer, which I declined...
Mr Sandman, send a grid girl (dum dum dum dum)
Make her more gorgeous than I've ever seen (dum dum dum dum)
Give her two lips like roses and clover (dum dum dum dum)
Then tell her that her lonesome nights are over
Sandman, No-one is here (dum dum dum dum)
There's not a soul to insult or smear (dum dum dum dum)
Please turn on your magic beam
Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream

sorry Carl, just awoken from my slumbers, best version of a sand-sleep- dance has to be Top Hat, and the wonderful Ginger response the next morning is one of my favourite sayings: when asked how did you sleep? Ginger with that wonderul irked expression responded: "I slept well enough, just not long enough" pure class
