A beautiful "disaster": the very last car from Brabham, the BT60B (1992):

they certainly weren't the best looking, I saw both of them race in their day, the Brabham just was so slow it looked as if it was better off in F3000 and the Tyrell also reminded me of a go kart type car - great to throw about and have fun in, I tried to book one to drive at Mallory Park in 2005 [for £1500 you could drive 4 laps] but the waiting list was about a year - so drove a Forti at a go kart circuit in Wigan - not quite the same but at least I drove it]

The Tyrrell 012 (1983/1984) - not exactly a candidate to "the best looking Formula One car of all time".
Even the supernatural skills of Stefan Bellof couldn't make this Tyrrell competitive, until it rained. The 1984 Monaco GP was the first that many realized the superb talents of Bellof and Ayrton Senna, both of whom were amazingly fast in the heavy rainfall and closing on leader Alain Prost. The race was ended early after several appeals from McLaren, which disappointed everyone except Ron Dennis.
-- Quoted from Wikipedia --
"The red flag to stop the race was shown at the end of the 32nd lap after clerk of the course Jacky Ickx decided that conditions were too poor for the race to continue. Senna passed Prost's slowing McLaren before the finish line, but according to the rules, the positions counted are those from the last lap completed by every driver – lap 31, at which point Prost was still leading. The stoppage was controversial, as it benefited Prost with a Porsche-designed engine, and was made by Ickx, the lead driver with the factory run Rothmans Porsche team in sports car racing. Ickx was suspended from his race control duties for not consulting with the stewards over his decision before making it. Had the race been allowed to continue until 75% of the laps, full points would have been awarded and Prost could have had six points from a second place (or nine for a win) instead of 4.5 points from the half-race win. Prost eventually lost the championship to Niki Lauda by only half a point."
The successful appeal to protect his lead backfired on McLaren and Prost, who was ultimately hoist by his own petard.

Yes, the Tyrrell was an ugly duckling but the driver was a diamond in the rough. A tragic loss.

This is a very interesting comparison between two Ferrari Formula 1 cars. One from 1982 and the other from last year, 2022. Both are ground effect cars but from a different era, 40 years apart.
It's mostly in German so probably not for everyone, but a lot of English is spoken when Rory Byrne is interviewed about these cars. Michael Schmidt, the renowned German motor racing journalist, presents it from Maranello.

Rory Byrne describes the stark contrast between the lengthy trial and error, hard work and incremental innovation of the past and the artificial engineering of today, when the best set-up can be downloaded before the first practice session.
My German ist nicht gut. Was Rory Byrne really this explicit?
"Der Luftstrom ist verdammt komplex und verlangt nach einem idioten/gelehrten wie Newey"

"Der Luftstrom ist verdammt komplex und verlangt nach einem idioten/gelehrten wie Newey" That's exactly what he said!

The last BRM: the P207 of 1977. Another beauty (somehow "baby blue" always works well for a racing car)...

All BRM's. Each one of them is good-looking, I think ...

The first one is my favourite. 1.5 litre V16 supercharged. A total failure but it sounded beautiful.

EuroBrun (1989) Orange is a good colour to a racing car :-) (and probably any car of the 1989 season was a beauty ...)
