Not sure if it is available elsewhere but Karun did an excellent interview with Trevor Carlin on S*YF1 and in it they go through all of the drivers currently in F1 and earlier that Trevor has handled in the lower formulas. It is very good indeed and gives a good view on why these guys were/are so good. he has had nearly all of the top guys at some time or other either as a driver in F3, or just given them a test.
Carlos Sainz drove for him in F3 as an 18 year old in a year when they had a difficult new car and Carlos didn't win a great deal due to that but was outstanding in a very wet round at Monza where he demolish the field. Carlin said that Carlos suffered huge pressure as a result of being Carlos Snr's son due to the presence of such a great and charismatic Rally champion. He feels that Carlos only began to relax when he was at McLaren, and that revealed the real driver and talent.
