Well, talking about mixed emotions!
Fantastico to see Charles Leclerc and Ferrari on pole position for the Monaco Grand Prix of course but... but will he actually start there? If a gearbox change is required he will drop five positions. The next few hours will be crucial so fingers crossed.
And disappointed for Carlos. He was on it every session and could have been there with Charles. He was gutted himself as he felt he could have a shot at pole.
To even suggest that Charles did that on purpose is insulting and stupid at the same time. But also the Dutch clown made a reference to Schumacher.... as a customer for pay tv there should be an option to mute these fools.

Mixed emotions indeed, just keep our fingers crossed and hope that gearbox is OK. I still think Carlos can be a factor in the race, but he was very upset after qualifying that he could not get his final lap in, he has been stunning all weekend. Kravitz disgusts me, anyone who has taken the trouble to understand and look at Charles as a character would know he would not even think about doing something like that. personally i think Kravitz should be forced to make a public grovelling apology for such a awful suggestion.

It's amazing how they always manage to find fools with a total lack of knowledge and understanding of the sport. This is a sensational sport by definition. It doesn't need fabricated sensation to emphasise this.

So far good news; Ferrari found no serious damage to the gearbox. Final decision will be made tomorrow morning but for now it looks like Charles can start from pole. Forza!

I was incandescent with anger after Kravitz' disgusting attempt at trying to cause s**t re Charles's crash. I just couldn't believe a responsible reporter would even suggest such a thing. Tonto was in two minds as you say Charles, but at least thought better of it. Kravitz is now on my people I don't listen to list.
I have always thought that Monaco has been the one track that shows off the really talented drivers and I am even more convinced this time. The cream always rises to the top at Monaco. Impressive performances from Leclerc, Sainz, Norris, Gasley, Bottas, Vettel and Schumacher. Mick Schumacher was up to 14th in practice before he crashed towards the end of the session. Sainz was really impressive and his performance belies the fact that other drivers need time to get used to their new cars. He could well have been on the front row, if not on pole. Norris really put his team mate in the shade, the toothsome aussie may be wishing he hadn't had the slogan "I own these streets" painted on his helmet. Interestingly it was pointed out by a couple of members of the Sky team that LH hasn't really gone that well at Monaco and his results prove this. Surely somebody as supremely talented as his supporters would have everyone believe should have been heading towards his fifth or sixth Monaco GP victory by now, especially given the performance advantage Merc have enjoyed over the last seven seasons. I know Jim Clark never won at Monaco but that was purely down to the fragility of the Lotus, he lead quite a few, at times bringing Jenks to the point of tears . Jackie Stewart led every Monaco GP race he entered bar the 1972 one when he was suffering from an ulcer and was pretty ill. Ronnie Peterson won in a five year old car, Aryton Senna won five on the trot and so it goes on.

Some commentators are degrees of annoying, others are good, some, like Martin Brundle and Karun Chandhok, are excellent. But the two who giggle and gossip throughout the broadcast, exclusively to each other because no-one else is childish, are a waste of time.
I pegged david croft as an idiot immediately, but tolerated ted kravitz because gossip is a normal currency on pit row. Since learning from John Charles some time ago that kravitz had eagerly contributed to the slandering of Nico Rosberg after the contact at Spa 2014, I see him as a clown with no journalism skills and his reports as tabloid gossip.
rupert murdoch, with global leadership in the advancement of evil, is ninety years old and the owner of the network. Could he be so addle-brained that he finds these two delightful?
Which one is the Dutch clown?

Which one is the Dutch clown?
Carl, I was referring to Olav Mol from Dutch tv channel Ziggo Sport. He was the F1 commentator during the Jos days and now again with Max. Inbetween there was hardly any F1 on Dutch tv. Mol is a self-righteous know-it-all who knows nothing. He got a second life with the rise of Max and now thinks he's the king of F1.
Dutch pit reporter Jack Plooij is no better and talks like a child. In almost every driver interview he tries to be funny by saying "you can say fuck on Dutch tv, haha". Yesterday I saw a short interview with Carlos Sainz who was asked by Plooij what it was like to drive around Monaco at these speeds. Carlos said it asked full concentration and confidence upon which Plooij said in his typical blunt manner: "so you need very big balls?". Carlos replied calm but clearly not amused: "well, you may call it that but I would say it needs courage". Class act, Carlos.
A few days ago there was the news here that Ziggo Sport lost the F1 rights to a Scandinavian group. I really hope they don't hire this clown duo for the Dutch comment...

A total disaster, tuned in late as I had been watching World Superbikes Race Three and could not believe the empty space in pole position. Word has it that it is the left side drive shaft, but we await to hear officially. Must have been hard to swallow for Charles but what a great lad, no sulking and down with the team to celebrate Carlos' brilliant second place.
A great win for Max who drove impeccably throughout. Valterri also had some terrible luck that was completely out of his hands, but Mercedes Benz were not strong at Monaco and one had the feeling he was holding Carlos up before the stops.
Terrific drives from Lando (yet again); Sebastian who looked far more like his old self; Checo who was strong; Pierre Gasly who continues too impress with some really solid drives. Also a very good drive from Antonio Giovinazzi.
However much of the "race" was the usual procession that is typical of a no overtake circuit, and everything played out around pitstops and strategy.
One thing that I found hugely annoying was the terrible production of the camera feed. When carlos was running close behind Max with the gap fluctuating what did we see just focus on Max and not linger a shade longer to see the pursuing car, terrible work. Then the inexcusable cut away when we had the only real on track excitement of Seb & Pierre side by side.

Ferrari messed up big time but kudos to Charles for his very mature behaviour. Mercedes beginning to crack under pressure?

The cars really should be capable of racing on any circuit on the calendar, including Monaco. If they can drive around only in procession (and "overtake" only via pit strategy) in the race that is considered to be the "crown jewel", then something clearly has gone wrong and should be "fixed". It's hard to understand why alarm bells don't start to ring. The Monaco GP should be exciting - certainly it should!

I totally agree, Mikael. There was more drama in the pits than on the track. Around halfway, when I realized slow death by boredom was possible, I fast forwarded to the end. Because the only passing is of lapped traffic, Monaco is more demonstration of speed than actual racing. There was some excellent in-car camera footage, but to fully concentrate on the driving I had to mute the commentary since david croft seldom bases his mindless jabbering on what's being shown. Why was Lewis Hamilton so angry with his team? He qualified seventh, he never came close to improving his position, yet when strategy didn't allow him into 5th, he had a continuous tantrum. Has sainthood gone to his head?

Has sainthood gone to his head? Yes Carl, Hamilton's little tantrum was somewhat unseemly. He obviously didn't have the mental where with all to understand that maybe Pierre Gasly had a stunning "in lap" and that his own "out lap" wasn't that special. No doubt someone will get the blame for his own miserable performance all weekend. When he found out, or was informed, that Perez had jumped him too I thought he was going to have a heart attack. JC
