For the first time since 2006, F1 cars will race again on the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari! The balance of power will not change so a Mercedes 1-2 and a Max/Red Bull in 3 is the most likely order in qualifying and probably also the race. But it will be a joy to watch the cars on this marvelous track nonetheless. And who knows, maybe Charles can do some wonders again on the track that is named after the Ferrari founder and his son. Miracles do happen sometimes… There’s no rain expected for the weekend but skipping the friday at a ’new’ track for most drivers could still be a recepy for surprises.

sorry not being up-to-date but has the Imola layout changed much since 2006?
that is a great picture, when you look back at that day how some cars just looked 'old' aka the Renaults and the Ferarri's whereas the Brabhams and McLaren's look just so much more advanced, maybe just me but
Sadly I think your surmise is probably what is going to happen Rene, but an emotional Ferrari victory would go down very well worldwide, I hope the Renaults continue to develop and get a good result as Imola was a good circuit and hopefully the run off areas aren't too great and we get some cleaner racing,

Now that is what I call a proper grid of F1 cars, no I mean Grand Prix cars . How many are there not a measly 20 with only two capable of winning. All things considered I am looking forward to the return of Imola, still a good circuit even with the two (?) chicanes. Wouldn't it be great if something occurred that meant the two MB's could not perform, I'd like that just to see the look on Tonto's face.

A total embarrassment similar to that of Roger Penske and Mercedes at Indy in 1995 would be cool...

I've been contrary of late, so will join in the best wishes for Charles Leclerc.
A Ferrari win would be refreshing, especially at Mercedes' expense.

I have added my vote for Charles, would have done by choice anyway if he had a half decent car, so what the heck! My ideal top three would be Charles; Carlos and Pierre, that would look good in my mind. As I haven't mused for a while now I will put forward to some thoughts now. At the beginning of 2019 I said that Ferrari had dismissed the wrong driver and should have kept Kimi instead of Sebastian. Not because I don't like Sebastian but on the grounds that he and Charles would have been a better combination; I had that much faith in Charles being a superstar even then. This season I have little doubt that Kimi would have performed better than Sebastian in the 2020 Ferrari, he has driven spectacularly well in the Alfa this year with little recognition. On another subject I have noted Horner's comments about Pierre Gasly and the fact that he has no chance of returning to the Fizzy Drinks set up. Apparently they have all the data from both teams and it is not considered that he would be any better than Alexander Albon. Well Pierre just keep doing an excellent job in your current team and then raise two fingers to them and move to Renault in 2022, they are obviously happy devoting everything to the foul mouthed Verstappen. So the second RB car appears to be down to either Perez or Hulkenburg. Many on the internet and motor sport journalists seem to think Perez is a good fit. OK he is a steady sound driver but in my opinion he ain't no ace. A simple comparison here; when Perez was teamed with Ocon it was very even, in fact I would say that Esteban looked more promising. Now with Ocon at Renault he is struggling against Daniel Ricciardo, something I don't think Nico did last year even though Daniel often had all the latest development bits which Nick did not. It has to be Hulkenburg for that second seat and I think he will push Verstappen, also I understand that the two get on well together. Maybe at long last Nico will then get that well deserved podium, even a win .

Maybe at long last Nico will then get that well deserved podium, even a win . Maybe our collective mind power can force the issue... like two Mercs colliding and taking out Max also! The SF1000 is obviously not an easy car to drive and doesn't have the 'planted rear' the way Sebastian likes it. You may have a point that Kimi is better in 'driving around' certain car charachteristics. This has always been a weakness in Seb's driving. Charles seems to be very good at that. Still, I feel sad for Seb that his Ferrari adventure ends on such a low key. The Hulk in the Bull? Yeah maybe. I like Nico and he is a good solid driver but personally have never been convinced he is a winner but it would be a great chance for him to prove the doubters wrong. Nico did most of his karting in Holland and speaks Dutch. He does get along with Max (who also speaks German by the way).

That is interesting about Nico speaking Dutch and Verstappen German, although I seem to recall that you René also understand German. Kimi and Gio have apparently been signed for Alfa again in 2021, Kimi seems happy about that, maybe he is aiming to do a Fangio .

Did I read that Williams have also retained the same line-up? wonder what is going to happen there over the winter-
The Hulk was pretty successful getting into F1, but Williams in my humble opinion got rid of him just at the wrong time and I really feel that knocked the wind out of his sails, maybe not a winner but definitely a regular point scorer, and if you have one 'winner' and one consistent the manufacturers winning - sorry second place - you forget 1st is a done deal- is much more achievable

This idea of a driver's salary cap seems good and logical. Thirty million USD is still an astronomical salary! (And even more so in the present age when they don't really put their lives at stake. If they did that, as in "the old days", it would be another matter.) Imagine that the drivers are paid per race. Then, with, say, 20 races per season, 30.000.000 USD per year still means 1.5 million USD per race. And perhaps price money (for winning, say) then comes atop on the base salary?
