From the news sheets today it seems as though Liberty are keen to have Zandvoort as the opening race of the European season in 2020. My first thoughts were not good as Northern Europe doesn't have the best of weather in early May. However on reflection I seem to remember that it was always the first round in Europe back in the distant past, in 1962 it was the debut of the Lotus 25 in the opening European race.
Anyway great to see a traditional venue back on the F1 calendar.

At 11.00 am there will be a press conference organized by Heineken to officially announce the ‘Formula One Heineken Dutch Grand Prix’. Heineken will be title sponsor and Jan Lammers sporting director. The race is planned for May 2020.

Great news indeed. All we need now is a complete revamp of F1 to make it wholly desirable; smaller cars; no halo; no DRS; a more level playing field for all; and a decent sound track............in my dreams .

Very good news indeed, René. Another good point is that, if the race is planned to take place already in May 2020, then there won't be time to "ruin" the track - then they will need to use it as it is, by-and-large.

I am confident they are not going to change the charachter of the track. Lammers explained there will be some adjustments to a few corners but that is mostly widening the inside to create a more fluent racing line (Hugenholzbocht) and I believe they will create only one bigger runoff at the Hans Ernst bocht because of the high speeds. It will be a very fast track and no room for mistakes!

isn't it great? a place of so many fantastic races returns to the fold, you know for the 1st time in so many years actually since the V10's I have heard some good news about F1, that is brilliant, although echo the sentiments of you all, don't mess it up Zandvoort, I mean you could go back to the original circuit but I guess that would be too far away to happen
now all we need is a decent French GP or, a decent German one, and um some sort of revolution to rid us of all these gimmicks, oh and aero's and unlimited budgets, and with some decent tracks, maybe then, it will be worth watching, although I will make a special effort to watch the Dutch GP and perhaps even go to it live, not the 1st year but maybe the 2nd. that is genuinely good news

Maybe it will be difficult to overtake because it's narrow but in general the old style circuits (Spa, Monza, Suzuka, Interlagos, Montreal) bring better racing than the new circuits. Zandvoort won't be an exception to that I am sure. And the sight of F1 cars going full speed through Tarzan or Scheivlak is something I am really looking forward to! Going back to the old circuit is not possible Chris as it doesn't exist anymore. There's a golf course, a bungalow park and roads now. But the new part is actually very good and the track may look shorter but it is a few metres longer than the old circuit. The first half of the lap is practically the same as it was in the old days. If you do go to Zandvoort one day Chris, let me know and we can try to meet up. That would be fun.

I did read this week that they intend banking the last corner onto the long pit straight. Also that Max and a few others who have raced at Zandvoort in lower classes feel that overtaking will be difficult, but the circuit will be exciting to drive.

That is what Lammers also told in an interview. The Arie Luyendijk corner leading onto the straight is already slightly banked but they are going to increase the banking to improve overtaking. The track will be a real challenge with an F1 car because there is not much room for error, exactly how it should be!

Rene, in a way that is a shame, but there again, the 'new' Spa - all 36 years new-is a tremendous circuit - so given the above's comments i am reassured and really hopeful, the banking sounds cool and definitely when i get over there it would be great to meet up

But I think in both cases they have done a tremendous job and managed to keep the 'soul' of the track, also in the new part. No Tilke signature here fortunately.

Whohaha! Only a few days after the ticket registration for next year's Dutch Grand Prix was opened, Zandvoort received over 1.000.000 requests! Insane. There are only 105.000 seats per day available so I guess we have a sell out! Tickets will be divided by draw. I am not going by the way, maybe the year after.

Interesting fact:
The last corner before the straight, the Arie Luyendykbocht, will be transformed into a banked corner. The slope angle will be an incredible 32 percent which equals an angle of 18 degrees. The Indianapolis banking is 9 degrees so twice as steep! The idea is to create a slipstream opportunity on the straight. Sounds cool to me.

The idea is to create a slipstream opportunity on the straight. Sounds cool to me. That sounds ideal, about halfway between the gentle banking at Indianapolis and the amazing 33 degrees at Talladega.
