Rene, I sincerely trust that all will not be joining from the Motorsport forum as we will then have to begin another .

Rene,
just a a quick comment as I am endeavouring to keep up to speed with all the "racers" comments. I sincerely trust that all will not be joining from the Motorsport forum as we will then have to begin another . Oh dear! No be assured I was only joking! We could ask Mark Hughes though as a guest commentator...

As Lucio says: MS is no longer my first port of call now, this wonderful forum is, my thanks again to Rob et al for the kind invite and the decorum displayed - however Lucio I would like to point out that I wouldn't normally wear dresses even in Brazil but credit to all who do when they get wet - I certainly can't remember being upset by that....
Dear Ray is an angry man, i believe this was ever since he went to the Canadian GP and I think he had supper with Mark Hughes and his irritation worsened - whether it was the supper, the company or the farce 1 is questionable I think, but I like Ray and he has always been polite and considerate to me, even in my ignorance of certain facts, but I haven't read his piece I find the responses becoming tedious and there are so many 'experts' and keyboard warriors it's boring! and I have noticed that although MS have gotten rid of the argumentative idiot who defiled Mat Oxley's pieces there are other 'experts' and one does wonder if they actually ride a motorbike to get some appreciation as to what is going on,
talking of which, did anyone see the Valencia MotoGP? what was Lorenzo doing??

I think the races since and including Singapore have been very interesting and could be a portend of 2018. We have had three competitive teams and at least one competitive driver from each of those teams. The other teams may have caught up a bit as well. I loved the Brazilian GP because I enjoy that track, it is like a speed bowl and has both super fast and super slow and follows the contours of the land. In fact I enjoy all races on old school tracks no matter what the result. I think next season will be even better than this and I am pretty sure the halo will not be as bad or as disruptive as people think. How many close up, front on shots where it will be really noticeable will you see anyway? However, I do believe that the halo will add more expense than just the unit cost as all the teams will be spending exhorbitant amounts relative to the gain on all the aero surrounding the halo and the helmet. Rob, I am sure not all the racers seated on our table will agree with you but I do. We're absolutely on the same page regarding modern F1. It has a lot of flawes and could be so much better but there is still a lot to enjoy also. It would be great if we had a three team battle next year with maybe a dark horse from Woking... I am another one who agrees (yet I must admit that, for several race, I have only been able to see the highlights at the official F1 page, including the latest Brazilian GP). Yes, the '17 season has offered far more positives than negatives: spectacular, aggressive-looking new cars, re-introduction of real racing tyres, closely matched leading teams, and outstanding ("flat-out") drives by outstanding drivers (in spite of the worsened problems with "dirty air" and overtaking). It's a pity that steam somehow has gone off the season already, with the championship decided. We can only hope it will go down to the wire in the new season (like it did, for example, five years ago, in 2012 - that Brazilian GP is hard to forget ...). Yes, now when the halo is coming whether it's liked or not(*), it will be kind of interesting to see how this new "structure" will be exploited to be useful not only as a safety device, because, as Rob indicates, it certainly will. ( (*) Saw that Niki Lauda has again criticized it in strong terms. )

I see Ray has mentioned our blog and all our names on the MotorSport site for some reason-probably to make a point re people leaving the blog. I think that to say, for example, "a group of frequent commentators" would be OK, but to list up names like that (including some names, real names, in full), that is to step over the line. It is, after all, posted on the official home page of a leading motorsport magazine publisher, a page that is read worldwide; it is not just, say, a Facebook page seen by a limited group of people.

Did you make it to the John Watson talk a couple of weekends back? I looked it up after you mentioned it on the MS forum but unfortunately all tickets were gone. A pity as it was held about 2 miles from my house! On the mailing list for info on the next one 👍 It was cancelled on the Tuesday before (Saturday the 4th meeting) due to John taken to hospital in Oxfordshire for urgent operation, we were told via email. He then sent a message, he is fine now I understand. They hope to reschedule next year, I really hope so. He's a favourite, the meeting was fully booked in few hours.
There are three meetings per year - January, May and October usually - held at the Village Hall in Albury, beautiful little village in Herts, which I am sure you know well.

( (*) Saw that Niki Lauda has again criticized it in strong terms. ) Mikael, I know you agree. There is still so much fascinating stuff going on and this generation of drivers is of a very high quality. It is absolutely a shame the championship was decided so early though. Brazil showed Ferrari lost nothing of its pace but the string of bad luck races was just too much. As for the halo, I was never a fan of the idea but having seen it live at Spa I have to say it didn't look that bad. At least at full speed! Let's see what the teams come up with in terms of aero ideas around the cockpit, could be interesting. As for Niki, I like the man and his opinions. No bullshit with Niki. He is a pundit on German free to air tv so I watch him before and after every race. His opinions are always clear and straight forward, just as he is as a person. He has always been outspoken against the halo and he won't change his feeling. But he is also a very pragmatic man so the discussion will be over for him when the new season starts.

I agree Mikael. He could have phrased it in another way. I once chose to use my real name on the MS forum so that was my own choice and I am not going to complain about that now but it wasn't very stylish to sum up our names like that.

Rene,
just a a quick comment as I am endeavouring to keep up to speed with all the "racers" comments. I sincerely trust that all will not be joining from the Motorsport forum as we will then have to begin another .
After Rob mentioned Ray letting the cat out of the bag, I had to check it out to see it for myself. I actually wonder what the guys at MS Think if they actually notice.
Jamie great to see you back and do not feel left out by Ray's omission of your name from his list, I think it was probably a case of him firing from the hip in his utter frustration of how he feels right now.
JC
I read the extensive comment by Ray in Toronto (in the Brazilian GP report). He writes that Bill in Sydney asked ""Where is this F1/Grand Prix racing blog? I haven't been invited so I suspect my reputation for 'stirring the pot' precedes me." Perhaps so. Clearly there is intense curiosity about our oasis of civility. We should be curious how this happened. After all, what we have is very worthy of protection. With great respect for the greatest writer ever to put pen to paper:
This royal throne of kings, this sceptred isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,--
This blessed plot, this realm, this Round Table

Carl, it couldn't be anyone else than you to introduce Shakespeare to our Table. Fantastic! And if the curiosity about our society keeps growing we maybe should consider moving to the dark web... By the way, Bill in Sydney does have a good sense of humor.
