John Charles and Rene,
Many thanks for your kind words.
I voted for Vettel as consolation, but on a natural road course as challenging as Interlagos I don't care who wins and want only a good race with passing on the approach and through the turns instead of calculated by someone at a bank of computers out of sight in the back.

Two sorely missed drivers oversteering on the old fearsome Interlagos' sweeps. When racing was still a grown-ups affair. Thanks Lucio, The second year 6 wheel Tyrells were seriously gorgeous but reportedly difficult to drive at competitive speeds. Judging by this wonderful photo, Patrick and Ronnie still had great fun.

Lucio,
"Hamiltonista" sounds like some terrible affliction. Is it highly contagious? If so is there any remedy that can prevent us all becoming subject to such a thing?
JC Charles, I know, it's a terrible word, I have learned it from our common friend Ray. I think we older guys are immune from contagion. To be fair to Lewis, of course he deserves the title, he made the difference in qualifying - possibly helped by Merc's engine Q3 mode, but surely he put a lot of his own - and always kept his head cool under pressure while Vettel cracked a few times too many. Someone should vote for Hamilton, or they will say this forum is anti-Hamiltonista.
Lucio, I will vote for Hamilton any time... as long as he wears red! I am kinda one track minded in that regard. Forza Ferrari!

Lucio,
It is indeed a terrible word and one coined by our good friend Ray. I would say you are largely correct in age playing a great part in making one immune, however there are a couple on the Motorsport site who are "..........istas" and they are even older than me!!!
Your summation of the season is very fair all things considered, as are your comments above about contemporary motor sport journalists, excellent comments.

OK Lucio, I volunteered to give him my vote - to "balance the sheet". Actually, I think he's not going to level off, in spite of having secured the championship. And, and JC mentions, he might need the prize money badly now! ;-)

Hi Rene I did vote for Kimi-thought Ferrari owed him something for his help this season and he normally goes pretty well here. Plus I got odds of 20 to 1 on him so thought why the hell not. In fact guys this brings me to another point that may be fun to you guys. There is an outfit here in RSA called Superbru and they organise a whole lot of friendly competitions around rugby, soccer, NFL, cricket,F1 and MotoGP. You form a little group, minimum five and you predict who will win. It is all good fun and no money changes hands plus all you have to do is enter your predictions and then check in after the event to see how you stacked up against your group. They calculate the scores etc. If you guys are interested I can set up a group called Racers of the round table. We can practice on the last two races. If I get five likes for this post I will go ahead and set it up and invite you all.

This exchange had me in stitches (and I'm supposed to be working...):
Ray: Well, you're upset at me, aren't you? I'll email you as long as you're no longer pissed and angry at me.
Rob: i never say pissed and angry for long so no i am not but i want to chat to you offline
Ray in person must really be something.

I really thought Ferrari had pole position in the bag with Lewis in the barriers. A bit disappointed but in all fairness, Valtteri did a good job while under the pressure of expectation. Could actually be a very good race tomorrow between the top 4 and Daniel and Lewis coming from behind. Looking forward to it. Forza Ferrari!

One of the major disappointments for me in recent years is F1 selling out to Sky, I know 40 years ago we were over the moon to get the highlights and I guess we have been spoiled but it isn't just that for me, it's the whole principal of greed and you will buy a package or whatever from a corporation, that I have little time for, whereas MotoGP I pay 200 euros a year and have unlimited access to so much - with excellent commentary and wonderful camera angles, and ok there is bias, but not jingoistically which is something we get on C4 in the UK, in F1 my favourite driver is German, but the bias in MotoGp from the British commentators is towards Spanish, Italian riders, in other words their bias is towards the person and who and what they are, whilst C4 nationality comes first and I don't agree
One of the best F1 races is at Brazil, I shall miss a very good race and an emotional one for Felipe as it is live on Sky with highlights on C4 and I am really saddened by that - I had hoped liberty would have done something about that but it appears even they are wary of Murdoch- so good racing chaps I am so looking forward to the MotoGP although odds are totally against a shock result but wish I could have been looking forward to the Brazilian GP as well

I echo Chris' sentiments. Not having GP racing free on air anymore has pretty much killed any residual interest I might have had. There were few races I never missed - Monaco, Spa, Monza, Canada and Brazil at supper time, etc - and now I don't even care to check which one is live on C4 on the day.
For me, it has gone the same way as Wimbledon, I never missed it for decades between Swiss and Italian TV coverage, then it went on pay-TV and that was it, only recently, living in the UK, I have enjoyed some classic finals with the likes of Federer and Nadal.
I don't subscribe to Sky and I won't.

Two great posts Chris & Lucio; your sentiments are mine to a tee.
i did not miss Wimbledon either Lucio, but interest waned for me by late 80's. Not the same for you in all probability but it was a similar situation for me with Test Match Cricket.
Pay To View is the scourge of modern society, all to fill the pockets of the money grubbing media empires and sporting "elite".
for the sports who sign up it is a case of short term financial gain, but long term loss as the viewers will decrease.
