Ref.: Mark Donohue in the McLaren M19A: Somehow it appears as if he's sitting very far (too far) ahead (in the cockpit). Peter Revson and Denny Hulme somehow looked more "harmonious" (more "laid back") in that car. (Of course, that was one year later). Maybe they are sitting somewhat further back ...?
Donohue 1971
Revson 1972
Hulme 1972

Mikael, Good observation! I wonder if McLaren moved the engine slightly rearward to enable more downforce after the rear wing itself was moved further back in open air.
Cheers, Carl

I think it's because of the different, more forward and larger airbox on the 1972 car. This gives a slightly different appearance visually.

I think it maybe because Mark was shorter than the other two drivers and sat further forward. Cars were not bespoke to each driver in those days as much as they are now.

A banner to commemorate the great Ayrton Senna. An incredible loss for the sport. And let's also think of Roland Ratzenberger who was only at the very beginning of his F1 career.

like other 'lost heroes' I sometimes wonder where life could have taken Ayrton, that amazing charisma was surely destined for other great places.

42 years this day. The great Gilles Villeneuve. He should have had at least ten more years and four world championships.
It's a crime we have to remember him with sadness

A true genius who could do things most folk couldn't even contemplate, someone who really deserved to be a real world champion and for me is remembered not for how he could drive but for his exuberance, when he won those races in 1979 he was smooth, precise and just perfect,

Isn't that Mauro Forghieri (center-right) in a black Lotus-JPS jacket?

Watkins Glen 1979, pure genius. Pure genius is right! Villeneuve was almost ten seconds faster than anyone else during practice in heavy rain.

Watkins Glen 1979, pure genius. Isn't that Mauro Forghieri (center-right) in a black Lotus-JPS jacket? Mauro borrows a jacket from the Lotus camp? Peter Warr seems more likely...
