Thanks Jamie, but obviously you missed the cool Gilles banner yesterday! But I will use it again and a Cevert image is also a good idea. I want to change the banner regularly anyway so we keep everybody happy, myself included! And this photo of Jimmy was taken at the US Grand Prix so I though it was a good choice.

Agreed another really great banner image, and a very significant photo as well.
François Cevert would be a very good subject as would his three time WC team mate JYS; for the unusual René how about finding a photo of Jackie in the Matra MS9 that only ran ay Kyalami in 1968. Also Chris Amon in the beautiful Ferrari 312 (without wings).
Anyway these banners really do look excellent.

I think the possibilities for the banner are limitless. I can also imagine a cool banner with classic sports cars or Group C cars for instance. And to avoid an unexpected shock reaction for any of you, I do plan for the occasional 'modern' banner!

Cool new banner image, Rene!
I recognized Jim Hall straight away and the year as 1968 by the Chaparral's wider rear wheel arches while Mark Donohue in Roger Penske's McLaren M6B gave me brief pause because I hadn't remembered it was so bright a blue.
The third car baffles because it looks like no standard Group 7 sports racer. Researching the number, I learned it was driven by Bill Young, a veteran journeyman who aimed high on a low budget and I believe he's driving a Lola T70 modified with a McLaren style nose. During his amateur career, Young drove a Lotus Elan to the C-Production National Championship in 1965. Where was the photo taken?
Best regards, Carl

Carl, the photo was taken at Laguna Seca.
The caption under the picture is as follows: "Laguna Seca USRRC: May 5, 1968. 3rd place finisher Hall leads race winner Donohue in Roger Penske's McLaren M6A-Chevrolet into Turn 9. #99 is Moises Solana in a McLaren M6B-Chevrolet, who DNF'd after 34 laps."

Thank you Rene, Clearly I enjoy stumbling around in the dark for the door and a light beyond. It's easy to overlook the United States Road Racing Championship Series because it was so completely overwhelmed by the Can-Am. Now that you've enlightened me, I believe the banner image shows the final turn at the original Laguna Seca, a somewhat shorter but much faster 1.9 mile layout many enthusiasts still miss. Moises Solana was a pay driver who may have arranged a one-off drive with the Mac's Super Gloss sponsored team, whose driver/owner Bill Young in a second car finished 9th in that race. A wealthy Mexican, Solana also had paid drives in his home country's Grand Prix, entering eight times for no results, which suggests he's being lapped in the banner image. Thank you again, Rene, for this wonderful forum, Best regards, Carl Attachment Deleted

You're welcome Carl. I also thought it was Can-Am at first. Well, they are Can-Am cars! I am sure Solana is being lapped in that picture. But it's money well spend by the wealthy Mexican; race in the big league and end up in the same picture with Hall and Donahue. Priceless! Thanks for the background on Solana.

Ah! Ha! JC! I was going to add that you were excluded of the quiz because of your unfair knowledge advantage! No, just kidding. But of course you are absolutely right. And what a wonderful bunch of drivers and beautiful race cars all combined in this picture! Legendary.
