I never get tired of admiring the plenitude of design ideas back in 1976; so many original ideas as to how a Formula One car should look like!

Mikael, Great photographs! I agree with your assessment. We were treated to a great variety of designs. I'm sure John Charles and René were both familiar with Ronnie Peterson's primary sponsor at Zandvoort.

great photos Mikael, 1976 really did rekindle my interests in motor sport after a hiatus and remember I think it was ITV showing the Fuji race 'live' and staying up to watch it -
I went to Brands in 76 and some abiding memories - the warm up was just so brilliant, really set the adrenalin and excitement going and how that is sorely missed, funny enough it was the M23 on bottom bend that I really remember so well, and of course my beloved Lotus, I always liked the 77 - until of course the 78 and 79 came along.
Of course the crash on the first corner and the crowd's reaction to James's disqualification was incredible, I honestly thought it was going to be a riot and as I was on crutches following a busted leg that didn't fill me with deep joy.

The seventies were the best! Carl, I can't remember the John Day Model Cars from that period myself and I'm not even sure if they were available in the Netherlands at the time. But I know John Charles was familiar with the brand and I'm sure he had a couple in his collection. I do have the Hans Stuck March in my slot car collection though, with John Day sponsorship!

A wonderful little detail, René, the "JC" emblem in the banner image. For sure JC is sorely missed in our forum ...

ahh the lovely 77, a car that started so complicated it drove Ronnie away but ended a winner under the guidance of Mario, a lovely looking car in my humblest of opinions - no bias here......

I did have hopes that this Renault would have brought Derek his deserved GP victory - it was a nice looking car and the Renault engine wasn't the worst , but sadly it didn't happen. I always felt the Patrick and Derek made a 'good' team - sadly another one passes on
