Out shopping with the family this afternoon and on my return I had two parcels waiting....one was the Jim Clark book and the other was the latest edition of Automobilsport! Won’t be getting much done tomorrow then....

Mine has arrived. My goodness what a tome. It looks very good with excellent quality paper but too heavy to read in bed. I nearly strained my back just picking it up.

Is it really that heavy guys? If so I am pleased that I had it delivered via my Amazon Prime membership, Can't wait to get over to the UK to cast my eye over the book now.

tell us about it Rob, but the quality is worth the pain- I agree Chris. I glanced through it quickly and my first thought was wow this has to be the best book ever on the great man. In fact maybe the title refers to the book as well. Charles two days before I received my books on David Hobbs and the 70s GP cars, both large books, and the Clark book outweighed them.

Are we sure it isn't an encyclopaedia by mistake . Rob have you had a quick look at the David Hobbs book yet, any comments?

I don't know how you guys are getting on with Jimmy's book, I keep having to put it down, just been reading AJ's and Parnelli Jones's comments about Jimmy, that nearly cracked me up, but the most wonderful comments are from Dan - awe inspiring

I think it’s fantastic Chris, I’m only up to 65 so far (been very busy) and enjoying it immensely. David has produced something special.

Hi Charles I have had a quick look through and seems the standard format like Redman, Bell etc. It is not as lavish as the Jim Clark book but then is about 40% cheaper. I don't know a lot about Hobbs except that he was good enough for John Wyer so I am looking to learn more. Will keep you updated.

David Hobbs was a very fine driver indeed and raced for many years at a high level. I am looking at the price Motorsport are charging for the Jim Clark book and I am so pleased I took the advanced Amazon offer back in February, 30GBP difference is not to be sneezed at. JC

interestingly David Tremayne speaks of Jimmy being very impressed with the Hobbsmatic and i think had one adapted to his road car is that correct?

It is Chris Both Jimmy and Stirling Moth had them fitted to their cars. Hobbo tends to gloss over it a bit in that normal understated English way, but his dad seems to have been true genius in auto gear boxes, way ahead of his time, but the car companies failed to grasp it and put the necessary resorces behind it.

having been converted to an automatic [ok tiptronic] as it is just so much easier and i have plenty of flexibility with it, and although I miss the dropping from 4th to 3rd for an interesting corner [within speed limits of course, just not sure which countries speed limits] i would be very reluctant to go back to a manual, I would love to know more of the Hobbsmatic, another crushed idea?
