The gals have gone!! Glad to see that Liberty Media and the FIA are spending time focussing on the real important issues that affect F1. Personally I have found it too anachronistic for my taste to have the girls on the grid, and it reminded me too much of ecclestone's chauvinistic way of doing things. They didn't have them on the grid back in the the sixties and seventies. I agree Rob, I would rather see a gal behind the wheel!

Obviously one would have to agree that the sexist imagery of grid girls is not acceptable, I was interested to hear an interview this afternoon with a young lady who worked in a similar role at last years British GP. She was very angry because of the removal of grid & podium girls as she stated that she and her fellow workers enjoyed the job. For her part she mentioned that it wasn't her full-time occupation but for many others it was and now their working opportunities were being taken away.
An interesting different perspective from those that do the job.
I would also like to see an end to the over population of so called celebrity in the pits and on the grid. These bits of flotsam are of no use or benefit to the sport and are cluttering up the place which could be used by far more worthy individuals.

I believe the grid girls were originally an extension of the traditional trophy queen, since disappeared. I think the whole idea is silly and also that celebrities should be hunted down and made to pay for a grandstand seat. Some time ago, there was a soon to be world famous trophy queen at a rural dirt-track in California.

Yes, it's her. She grew up nearby and is 18 or 19 in the picture. Her beauty drew a lot of early attention and she won several beauty contests before coming to the attention of Hollywood.

funny enough always had a bit of time for Raquel, she is a very nice lady, with a delicious sense of humour, and if memory serves her son or daughter married Fred Trueman's son or daughter, sadly the relationship didn't last but the wedding would have been a hoot-
when i went to Le Mans in the early and cam across the Hawaiian Tropic girls I was a bit nonplussed and impressed, but nearly 40 years on? so will this mean their removal from all motor sports?

and so much with you JC, and I am not a fan of the grid walk, I do find it a bit cringeworthy at times - although like at the MotoGP when they talk to the managers it always seems a bit more decorum, and half the celebrities I haven't a clue who they are and care far less,

Chris, This afternoon I wrote my first post for several days about the TV broadcasts and more or less what you have written about the grid walk, unfortunately as I pressed send my Wi Fi dropped and I lost the flaming lot. That is the one problem with this set up here, as you cannot reopen what you have written if it fails, it gets lost! I am averse to re-writing anything so it is lost forever.
Neil Hodgson's MotoGP grid walk is infinitely superior to either of the UK's F1 broadcasters attempts; Brundle's now being positively cringeworthy at best especially when he speaks to some celeb' who has nothing meritorious to say, and shouldn't even be there in the first place.

I am averse to re-writing anything so it is lost forever. I've experienced that too - really annoying indeed. A useful "trick" - and a good habit to develop - is to always copy everything to the buffer before pressing "Create Post". Highlight everything with the mouse and press ctrl-c in Windows (cmd-c in Mac) - and the text is now in the buffer memory. If "Create Post" then goes wrong and the typed text disappears, place the cursor in the now empty area and press ctrl-v (cmd-v in Mac) and the text is back again.

Jean Todt should be compelled to hunt down celebrities and force them to pay for a grandstand seat.
