So a post Chris made had me thinking about what events I want to attend this year and I made the following list, these are what I want to see as a minimum but they'll be plenty of other bits and bobs added as the year winds on....
1. Ferrari exhibition at the London Design Museum 2. Race Retro 3. Goodwood Festival of Speed 4. Silverstone classic 5. WEC Silverstone 6 hours 6. DTM Brands Hatch round 7. British Hillclimb Championship rounds at Shelsley Walsh and Prescott (possibly Gurston Down also) 8. Donnington Historic Festival (including a look around the collection) 9. London Classic Car Show 10. Ulster GP or North West 200
Just wondering whats on the fellow round table racers mental list for the coming year? Is there an event where we'll be able to gather some of us together (I'll hopefully see Chris at Race Retro)?

That is a very interesting and varied list Jamie.
I don't think I will have many if any on mine, although I keep promising myself an event at Le Mans every year as it is only about 90 mins drive from where I live. However the enthusiasm wanes, even when I should go and see my cousin ride in the French MotoGP.
Looking at your list I think the hill climbs and Ulster GP stand out for me and I could be tempted to go to those if the chance arose.

Not a bad list Jamie! Mine will be something like this: 1. This month will be the yearly Interclassics show in my home town. I know Berger's Ferrari F1/87 will be there! 2. The WEC 6hrs of Spa 3. Zolder Historic Grand Prix 4. Ferrari Racing Days Spa 5. The Formula 1 Grand Prix at Spa These are my must sees. Then there are more races and festivals at Spa and Zolder during the spring and summer (like the Blancpain GT at Zolder or the Summer Classic at Spa) that I might visit. Depends on weather and timing. Another Grand Prix (Germany or France or maybe Italy) would be nice and I also really want to go back to the Goodwood Festival of Speed one day. But all these depend very much on time and finances. I will see but if I do go to Goodwood we must meet up!

Thanks for reminding me of the Ferrari exhibition. I think that will be all for the year for me.

They would be excellent choices John, the Ulster GP is breathtaking it really is, the sheer speed is something else. Hillclimbing is perhaps my favourite branch of the sport to watch trackside and its very underrated.....fabulously varied cars and committed drivers, wonderful.

I understand street courses in Rotterdam and Amsterdam have been considered (Amsterdam?). I believe you are close to Rotterdam. Does a street course sound realistic? I hope the Dutch Grand Prix is reinstated and Zandvoort prevails. Cheers, Carl

excellent suggestion if I may say Jamie, hopefully we'll meet up at Race Retro, which day are you hoping to go by the way? my list is lengthy this time of year but it decreases as the year goes by, but, with all best intentions...
1. January - Croft rally - a very low level rally of classics and moderns- good fun and good to see Healey's compete with Subaru's and modern stuff 2. Race Retro 3. Donington Historics in May 4. Gt + F3 at Donington in September, 5. Gold Cup at Oulton in August 6. BSB at Oulton Park, Knockhill and Brands 7. DTM Brands 8.WEC Silverstone 9. Moto Gp at Valencia 10. Harewood Hill climbs
would love to do the Ulster - that is just so awesome, and may look at the Goodwood race meeting in September but....may have to work in between this and 4 motor bike trips already organised...

Cheers, Carl Carl, the chances of a street race in Amsterdam or Rotterdam are really very slim. The old city of Amsterdam is totally unsuitable for such an event with the canals, cobblestones and tram rails. Rotterdam could be more possible (there have been F1 demo events in the past) but still unlikely. But in light of the Max Verstappen hype and the almost certainty this will continue for years to come, I do think there is a good chance the race returns to Holland and then it will be either at Zandvoort or Assen (from the MotoGP TT). Assen got the first green light only a month ago after an FIA inspection regarding a possible Formula 1 race. There will be more inspections soon but in principle the track was deemed suitable. Zandvoort is not that far yet but as I mentioned a while back in another thread ( See here) they are working on it. Personally I would prefer Zandvoort. PS I am actually not that close to Rotterdam. I live near the most southern border. Cities like Brussels, Antwerp or Cologne are nearer for me. But for an American these distances are probably all relative!

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is on my bucket list and has been for a long time. Whilst I remain in South Africa the chances of me attending anything are very slim. I will be at all the GPs in spirit and through the TV though.

About The Netherlands, but on a completely unrelated subject, it's a few weeks I am studying on some Dutch books (meaning, in Dutch), I got them in my bag, today too, to study on my commute. Google translator helps, the maths and subject matter are well known to me and they both help too to make my way through the text.
"Toepassing", "veerconstante", "invloed van de zakking van het ophangpunt".
How do they say?
Fake it till you make it.

I can imagine that a trip to Europe is a costly event but if you ever do go to Goodwood let us know! I have been there once (in 2009) and it is heaven for guys like us. You will never be disappointed.

Some great stuff on your list there Chris, Oulton Gold Cup is one that really peaked my interest + the GT and F3 at Donnington. Regarding Race Retro, I'm leaning towards the Saturday but haven't made my mind up yet.

Lucio, does that mean you are moving to The Netherlands or working on a project here? If you have problems with a translation you can always ask me, although there are a lot of technical terms I believe so that is quite specific. You are rather good at other languages by the way for a Beta person!
