Did a motorcyclist actually get runner up spot on that awful broadcasters SPOY! I haven't watched it since Jensen got beaten by an old footballer . Good on you for voting for Johnny. JC

the trouble is JC I now await the Daily sun's rhetoric on us 'nasty' motorcyclists - the scourge of any society, as opposed to the reality,
that year when that 'old footballer' won was beyond my comprehension, I still don't understand how, someone whose name was predominant because of a recent extra-marital affair beat a guy who had achieved so much for a sport and was a pretty decent bloke,

I cannot fathom how Johnny Rae even came close to getting the SPOTY as the BBC never even have highlights of his achievements, or even any mention on its news programs. The BBC is now something I totally despise and I avoid anything but essential programs featured upon that network. They have ruined my music radio station of choice and couldn't care less about listener complaints. I will not watch their news programs on TV, far preferring the alternative put on by ITV. I sometimes get very disillusioned by all things going on today, as the things i used to like are being spoilt by people who have no flaming idea about what they are doing; MS is another. JC

Good on Jonny Rea, what a phenomenal rider he is. Didn't watch the show however, haven't for years...
JR hails from Ballyclare in Northern Ireland which, co-incidently, is where both my Sister and her family and my parents live - he visited the local school and my nephew met him after his title success last year.

Jc and Jamie, we share so much gentleman, we really do,
my irritation with the biased BC is rather deep set, not only are they prejudiced towards most things north of the Watford Gap but clearly do not care for motor sport in any forms, the news reporting is on a par with 'the odious empire' and i really don't think they can distinguish between 'real' news and fake news, as a former member of Terry's togs' whose musical tastes were definitely suspect but his humour and wit unparalleled to be replaced with a teenybopper is, as I have commented previously, what seems to be happening at MotorSport, at the expense of the long serving audiences,
the other thing about Johnny coming 2nd was that he wasn't far off winning, but have the biased ones made comment on this?, no, what a shock to my senses that is- and i pay for this....

aside from above's moans and groans, just watched the first WSB race at Imola, what a circuit that is for bikes, wonderful and that man Rae again, why isn't he in MOtoGP?

Apparently concerned about polluting the ecosystem, Australia missed a golden opportunity to drown its most repulsive native son, instead allowing the "odious creep" (well said John Charles) to prosper and spread malignancy around the world.

I cannot get excited about WSBK, it just doesn't have the wow factor that BSB has. It is too dependent upon electronics, which are banned in BSB.
Johnny Rae is a good rider no doubt but his machine is the best thing out there and his team mate is not as great as once thought of, far too many excuses from Tom. I would be interested to see him up against Shane Byrne on equal machines, that would be worth watching.
For me the hay day of WSBK was Foggy and co; and then Mr Bayliss and Colin Edwards.

sadly you are quite right John, I did like the race on Sunday as it was at Imola which is scary for a bike race, and Johnny's riding is great, I think Tom is supposedly moving to Yamaha next year but I would like to see Johnny is MotoGP and no electronics,
BSB has become so popular - in fact spectator wise over popular - and difficult to watch now, and that is, please note WSB and F1/2 because of it's raw speed and simplicity - oh and challenging circuits and great riders help a bit, and then there are the machines, etc, but it really has captured the imagination of the public,
I was at Donington previously for the WSB and Foggy did a couple of parade laps and got the biggest cheer of the day -far greater than Tom's double - says everything to me - sadly can't make Dony this year as the roads in Germany are beckoning and we need to see how the Tiger does against the KTM's etc,

WSBK in the days of Foggy et al were spectacular, at the time more enjoyable than Moto GP as it is known now, in my view. The races on circuits like Monza and the un emasculated Hockenheim were my favourites to watch. Real heart in the mouth stuff. I gave WSBK a miss once the last of those guys left and have watched the odd one this year, but the races seem tame in comparison.

The last BSB round from the glorious Oulton Park circuit was televised live on the Quest FreeView/Sat channel thanks to Eurosport thinking that the Snooker was more popular. The coverage was fantastic, best televised motor sport I have watched for years.
As Chris was saying the crowds were massive and indicative of the huge popularity of this series, where the rules are just about spot on.
Rob mentions the WSBK of old and I agree that it was far better than MotoGP at that time, the race at Brands Hatch was always packed to the rafters, and just wonderful to watch on the GP circuit.
