Detroit, was entertaining....or as one commentator remarked quite a crash fest and who am I to disagree, with some ambitious moves and some just downright 'what is he doing' it certainly showed drivers at their most competitive and ruthless. I enjoyed it anyway
Sad to hear about Parnelli's passing, he really was a great driver and every interview I heard he was a true gent, it is a shame that his great victory in 1963 was marred, Jimmy never doubted that Parnelli was the true victor that year and they apparently got on quite well. rest in peace champ.

Riverside will always be engraved on my heart, but it's gone with the wind...
The track near Austin isn't bad, but it's not the circuit of America
That would be Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, the greatest of the several circuits whose every corner I know by heart and where world-class bratwurst can be enjoyed while surrounded by green pastures. Perfect from the beginning, Road America has never been altered. Race one of McLaren's domination of Can-Am was here and I wish I'd been too!
A steak dinner at Siebken's for anyone who can convince me otherwise

Grand Prix of Road America - Elkhart Lake
The real circuit of America, as Carl said. The majestic Road America, practically unchanged since the first races in the fifties. Perhaps it is a good thing that Formula 1 does not come here because that would certainly be at the expense of the unique character. This weekend the Indycars are in action and history shows that the later champion often wins here. The magic of Elkhart Lake... It's a bit of a shame that two of the best events of the year, the Canadian Grand Prix and the Road America race, are held on the same weekend and overlap in time! Just like Monaco and the Indy 500 are always on the same weekend. But well, there are worse things in life...

That was a big shunt for Josef! Luckily he's okay. First career pole for Lundqvist, impressive. The Hondas look strong here.

If there is any truth in the Magic of Elkhart Lake, then Will Power will be champion! Another exciting race at Road America. Chaos at turn 1 immediately took several contenders for victory out which was a bit of a shame. That was a mistake from Marcus Armstrong. But nice to see Will Power end his two year win drought!

Grand Prix of Monterey - Laguna Seca
Fantastic Laguna Seca is on the program this weekend. Earlier in the season than we have been used to in recent years and despite the heat wave in large parts of North America, the weather is expected to be pleasant here. However, the battle for places of honor will be no less heated! As has been the case throughout the season, it is impossible to say in advance who is the favorite here. Maybe we'll know a little more after the first practice session later today. Bad news for Theo Pourchaire, he has had to make way for young American talent Nolan Siegel at Arrow McLaren.

It's musical chairs at warp speed in Indycar: Allegedly rabid Augustin Canapino fans have been sending death threats to other drivers, Canapino was suspended indefinitely and reinstated. Sunday at Laguna Seca should be eventful. Where's the next Fangio when one is needed? Neutral spectators would be wise to avoid grandstands with Argentine flags being waved. David Malukas, a certain future star at Arrow McLaren, was fired after being sidelined by a reckless mountain bike injury but has now been hired by Meyer Shank Racing for a well-deserved second chance. Theo Pourchaire was shown the door by Arrow McLaren without reason and Nolan Siegel has taken his place. The kid needs to learn how to smile. I suspect young Nolan and his wealthy father have studied every episode of The Game of Thrones. www.usnews.com/news/sports/articles/2024-06-21/indycar-heads-to-laguna-seca-with-new-faces-in-new-cars-as-drivers-jockey-for-jobs

Indycars spoil fans! new headlines, these wonderful circuits - gosh how I miss MotoGP not being there - and Laguna Seca is such a favourite - I just love the corkscrew - provoking memories of Alex Zanardi's incredible overtake,
just watched the highlights of the practice - just love it, that circuit is one I always wanted to visit, unbelievable
Oh losing track of who is who and where they fit, in its heyday Autosport was great for that but now I don't know a lot of these people and the soap opera's that go on, all part of the show?

Carl, I don't know what is going on there. I read about the Canapino 'fans' misbehaving which is really outrageous. That part of social media is the poison of modern times. I never heard about Nolan Siegel to be honest. Thought it was a shame for Theo Pourchaire who is really a good driver and deserved this chance at Arrow McLaren. And he did a good job but that wasn't enough apparently. I assumed Siegel was a talent but money from daddy obviously helps. The good news is that FP1 looked promising with Penske, Andretti and Ganassi all in the top 3. 1. Scott McLaughlin Team Penske Chevrolet 1:07.632 191.715 2. Colton Herta Andretti Global Honda 1:07.732 0.099 191.435 3. Álex Palou Chip Ganassi Racing Honda 1:07.737 0.105 0.005 191.419 4. Josef Newgarden Team Penske Chevrolet 1:07.880 0.248 0.143 191.015 5. With apologies to the great George Gershwin:
"Summertime, and the livin' is easy
Sponsors jumpin' and the speeds are so high
Oh, your daddy's rich and your ma is good-lookin'
So hush, little Nolan, don't you cry."

An unusual qualifying at Laguna Seca with only one Penske in the top 10. Honda powered cars qualified 1-2-3-4, otherwise an even spread throughout the field. Danish driver Christian Lundgaard was faster than the boss, quickest at Team Rahal by a wide margin. Ed Carpenter Racing, never entirely comfortable on road courses, missed the best set-up for its two drivers.

It wasn't a bad race Carl, but I didn't watch it live either. Too late for me this time and I had to get up early. But Alex Palou looked very strong. Finally a good result again for Colton Herta and the same applies to Alexander Rossi and Romain Grosjean.
