One seriously hopes for anyone else to win a race, and for the event to go peacefully -
I have gone for George for no other reason than anyone but Max - even in Michale's heyday others had the chance to win, this domination is so destructive

Liberty are looking at buying MOTO GP from Dorna, groan, My modest hope is that Ferrari crushes Red Bull... Yes Chris, bad news for MotoGP. And Horner is cleared of wrongdoing. Don't know what to think about that to be honest (well I do) but it is what it is. Will be interesting to see how the internal RB struggles develop.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain or even to what's true. Christian Horner and Bernie Ecclestone are both untainted by corruption. A rumour circulating in Brackley suggests it was Adrian Newey who was terrorized by the team principal. Will justice prevail in Formula One? Will Horner be caught and dragged by Red Bull's drag reduction system?

Forza Ferrari. Pasi ne Red Bull. The latter phrase is adopted from a revolutionary phrase used by the Shona tribe in Zimbabwe during the war to end white majority rule.

That was an interesting day 1. Certainly FP2 were all the big hitters put on the softs and did some fast runs. Not the expected Red Bulls or Ferraris but a Mercedes 1-2 and a fast Alonso in third. Sainz was fourth, Piastri fifth and Verstappen only in sixth position, almost half a second down on Hamilton's time. Okay, it's still early days and teams can sometimes find a second or more after a night of simulator work. But it's still a surprise, a welcome surprise I have to say, that Red Bull is not way ahead. And Mercedes did look really good. Leclerc didn't manage a free lap with slower cars in his way so he should be up there too and that also goes for Norris. But Verstappen and Pérez had clean laps but couldn't find the pace, at least not yet.. tomorrow will tell us more. FP2 times 1 Lewis HAMILTON Mercedes 1:30.374 2 George RUSSELL Mercedes +0.206 3 Fernando ALONSO Aston Martin +0.286 4 Carlos SAINZ Ferrari +0.395 5 Oscar PIASTRI McLaren +0.410 6 Max VERSTAPPEN Red Bull Racing +0.477 7 Nico HULKENBERG Haas F1 Team +0.510 8 Lance STROLL Aston Martin +0.517 9 Charles LECLERC Ferrari +0.739 10 Sergio PEREZ Red Bull Racing +0.741 11 Alexander ALBON Williams +0.959 12 Daniel RICCIARDO RB +1.142 13 Logan SARGEANT Williams +1.341 14 Kevin MAGNUSSEN Haas F1 Team +1.390 15 Yuki TSUNODA RB +1.507 16 Pierre GASLY Alpine +1.577 17 Valtteri BOTTAS Kick Sauber +1.627 18 Esteban OCON Alpine +1.653 19 Guanyu ZHOU Kick Sauber +1.674 20 Lando NORRIS McLaren +2.234

I always watch FP2 for Martin Brundle's expert analysis at challenging corners. The broadcast suffers without him and I'd hate to lose his expertise, but still hope he assaults the next rude celebrity he encounters on the grid walk, a chore he tolerates grimly. He'd be relieved of that onerous duty if he bashed someone across the nose with his microphone. I normally don't watch FP1 and FP3, saving having to mute David Croft over 10 (!!) hours. By comparison, the Indycar season opener in St. Petersburg next week is a single broadcast lasting 2 1/2 hours. Formula One qualifying can be unremarkable in Q1 before the excitement builds in Q2 and then further in Q3, always worth watching.
I may watch Indycar qualifying on NBC's "Peacock" app, but the less I hear of Leigh Diffey's effluence, the better. I'd gladly pay to view both series with imbeciles silenced, just the actual sounds of the race and timely, intelligent subtitles... In the past, a three-day weekend at Riverside Raceway was always a goal. The entire circuit was open to explore (even the paddock) and I was always engaged, even at breakfast in the Holiday Inn, where everyone stayed and Jim Hall or Jackie Stewart might be at the next table. For some new to racing, even a relatively slow Can-Am pace lap could induce nervous tension. As the grandstand vibrated beneath their feet and the ominous thunder of a combined 20,000 bhp assailed their senses, ladies often sought a comforting embrace from a gentleman...or a rogue

First qualifying of the year and another pole position for Max Verstappen, but… fortunately not with a huge margin as some feared. It was a good lap from Max but Red Bull had to work for it. Actually, the lap that Leclerc did in Q2 was faster than the eventual pole time. So there is hope. And now let’s wait and see how the race develops tomorrow and if Ferrari’s race pace is indeed as good as the tests suggested. Disastrous qualy for Alpine by the way. 1 Max VERSTAPPEN Red Bull 1:29.179 2 Charles LECLERC Ferrari +0.228 3 George RUSSELL Mercedes +0.306 4 Carlos SAINZ Ferrari +0.328 5 Sergio PEREZ Red Bull +0.358 6 Fernando ALONSO Aston Martin +0.363 7 Lando NORRIS McLaren +0.435 8 Oscar PIASTRI McLaren +0.504 9 Lewis HAMILTON Mercedes +0.531 10 Nico HULKENBERG Haas +1.323 11 Yuki TSUNODA RB 1:30.129 12 Lance STROLL Aston Martin +0.071 13 Alexander ALBON Williams +0.093 14 Daniel RICCIARDO RB +0.149 15 Kevin MAGNUSSEN Haas +0.400 16 Valtteri BOTTAS Kick Sauber 1:30.756 17 Guanyu ZHOU Kick Sauber +0.001 18 Logan SARGEANT Williams +0.014 19 Esteban OCON Alpine +0.037 20 Pierre GASLY Alpine +0.192

same old same old. It was a cold wet day in the UK so I lit a fire in the wood burner. Bad mistake as it was the only thing that caught alight this afternoon. I fell asleep after twenty laps because it got too hot in the lounge. didin't know what was going on then discovered-nothing.
I has such high hopes for this race only to see them dashed on a Red Bull 1-2. Good drive by Carlos. I think Ferrari have made a mistake despite what the stock market thinks.

There all hope flies out the window again... another extremely dominant victory for Max Verstappen. The Red Bull is again the best car, as proven by Checo's second place.
Ferrari is the second best team and maybe they can win a few races if all goes well, but threatening Red Bull for the title again seems too ambitious. Under the current regulations it is practically impossible to catch up.
A scenario in which Max wins all races is not even that unthinkable. The gentlemen who come up with all these rules should think about that carefully. Max is a very good driver, no discussion, but such dominance suffocates the sport and should not happen.
_
Meanwhile: the Dirt Reduction Saga continues at Red Bull. After an anonymous source leaked suspected evidence against Horner to the press, it is now Jos Verstappen who contributes by stating that Horner should resign.
Jos Verstappen: Christian Horner ‘playing victim when he’s the one causing problems’
Jos Verstappen, the man with loose hands who beat his wife, who knocked a man into the hospital, who hit Max, who received restraining orders and prison time, this Jos now says that Horner is destabilizing the team. How much more rancid and unpalatable can it get?
It is indeed a weird situation. You win everything, but it can't really be fun anymore...

We should tell Ferrari to place some garlic in Max's cockpit.

to say I have enjoyed the comments more than the race is an understatement the wonderful Bela and Max Schreck in what is the still scary 102 year old film Nosferatu [sadly someone had the brainwave to make another one to be released this year] and for anyone who hasn't watched the 1922 film - it really is worth watching
I too had hopes and had the computers set up to follow it, but heart sinking I realised after 100 yards no one was close, I have searched my mind for previous domination and how destructive it becomes mainly this century the domination has become boring. Previously Ascari could be beaten but wasn't for 2 years but my word the races looked gobsmacking, and the McLaren domination was enlivened by the drivers fighting whereas the Middle Eastern series, 2 at the front and 2 at the end of the season does not bode well, One can only hope as the Saudi's having tried to arrange their own golf series and football leagues they may decide to do the same with motor racing and take the fizzy drinks with them.
As for the soap opera, if there is one person in the paddock I dislike intensely it is Jos V. You have said it far better than I Rene and I would agree with your sentiments, I do suspect the wolves won't be satisfied until CH's career and marriage are in tatters, and whilst I have no sympathy at all for CH this witch hunt is unpalatable.
Which made me think, having grown up with tough and I mean tough owners/ managers they at least demanded respect for what they were doing and how they kept going despite the odds - but were oddly likeable, ruthless but personalities. Whereas today.........soap operas....

David Croft is amused by everything he says, too close to his idiocy to see it.
Christian Horner, the team principal previously shown and interviewed most often until now, was seen only once during the race broadcast, and he had to lean forward and look far down the line of Red Bull engineers. Sky TV, emulating the high moral stance of its owner, tabloid baron rupert murdoch, cannot abide depravity.

Sheikh, now King Hamad: "Bah! Rain?"
