to say I have enjoyed the comments more than the race is an understatement the wonderful Bela and Max Schreck in what is the still scary 102 year old film Nosferatu [sadly someone had the brainwave to make another one to be released this year] and for anyone who hasn't watched the 1922 film - it really is worth watching I too had hopes and had the computers set up to follow it, but heart sinking I realised after 100 yards no one was close, I have searched my mind for previous domination and how destructive it becomes mainly this century the domination has become boring. Previously Ascari could be beaten but wasn't for 2 years but my word the races looked gobsmacking, and the McLaren domination was enlivened by the drivers fighting whereas the Middle Eastern series, 2 at the front and 2 at the end of the season does not bode well, One can only hope as the Saudi's having tried to arrange their own golf series and football leagues they may decide to do the same with motor racing and take the fizzy drinks with them. As for the soap opera, if there is one person in the paddock I dislike intensely it is Jos V. You have said it far better than I Rene and I would agree with your sentiments, I do suspect the wolves won't be satisfied until CH's career and marriage are in tatters, and whilst I have no sympathy at all for CH this witch hunt is unpalatable. Which made me think, having grown up with tough and I mean tough owners/ managers they at least demanded respect for what they were doing and how they kept going despite the odds - but were oddly likeable, ruthless but personalities. Whereas today.........soap operas.... Chris, I remember being terrified as a child watching Bela Lugosi as Dracula, but never as much again after seeing Max Schreck as Nosferatu in the masterpiece 1922 film directed by the great F.W. Murneau. Silent films had to communicate on a more challenging level and greats like Murneau and Lang, Chaplin and Keaton mastered the language of film without spoken dialogue. There was a television miniseries based on Stephen King's book, Salem's Lot, that was very well done and shown in two episodes in 1979. I remember my girlfriend being petrified by the vampire, looking very much like Nosferatu My favorite recent horror film (which I believe you've also seen) is "It Follows", a masterpiece written and directed by John Robert Mitchell in 2014. Don't look back... Someone may be following you. Cheers, Carl

In the book "F1 50 - Fifty Golden Years", by D. Tremayne (Ed.), it is said of J.M. Fangio that, "... the team that succeeded in signing him would be virtually assured of the crown".
Now a similar statement maybe applies to Adrian Newey - to a constructor/designer rather than to a driver ...?
In whatever way, a tremendous piece of good fortune for Honda to be "released" from McLaren and to get involved with Red Bull and Adrian Newey instead. Not to belittle the efforts of Max Verstappen, of course. He has become a tremendously good driver.

Carl, I used to be a member of the National Film Theatre in London so got to watch all these glorious films on the big screen and Nosferatu still held it's fear factor, as did a few other classic silent films, Metropolis being one such.
Mikael, that is a good quote and pretty accurate - if there was ever a driver who could pick a winner it was Fangio
We are left with a similar question over Max as we were with Lewis - are they that good?
what we do know is that Adrian is that good

Meanwhile: the Dirt Reduction Saga continues at Red Bull. After an anonymous source leaked suspected evidence against Horner to the press, it is now Jos Verstappen who contributes by stating that Horner should resign. Jos Verstappen: Christian Horner ‘playing victim when he’s the one causing problems’ Jos Verstappen, the man with loose hands who beat his wife, who knocked a man into the hospital, who hit Max, who received restraining orders and prison time, this Jos now says that Horner is destabilizing the team. How much more rancid and unpalatable can it get? It is indeed a weird situation. You win everything, but it can't really be fun anymore...
I wondered if Jos Verstappen is the formal manager of Max, but found out that he isn't.
There is the concept of "monster parents", which originated in Japan and which refers to parents who constantly bother their children's teachers with numerous requests and complaints. Could there be parallels to this concept?
Link:
In whatever way, curious, in a way, that Jos V. has a background as a driver for the very team that eventually became "Red Bull Racing" - and which again, in near future, will have close ties to Ford.

My favorite recent horror film (which I believe you've also seen) is "It Follows", a masterpiece written and directed by John Robert Mitchell in 2014. Don't look back... Someone may be following you.
Interesting and useful info, Carl - racing-related or not :-)
I will look for it - sounds interesting!
For me, the most scary movie in recent memory is "The Mist" of 2007, based on a short story/novella by Stephen King.
Best,
M.

I am usually not into horror movies but I saw “Get out” of 2017 in the cinema when it was released. A very oppressive film with good acting I have to say.

The Dirt Reduction Saga continues;
Temperatures are rising to boiling point. Max Verstappen could reportedly walk away from Red Bull and join Mercedes should an exit clause in his contract be utilised. The 26-year-old would be free to walk away if another key Red Bull figure, Helmut Marko, calls it quits. Gerhard Berger, a close friend of Marko, who said that: “As of now: Horner stays, Helmut Marko and Adrian Newey quit and Max goes to Mercedes.”
My, my, what to think of all this?
And as if that isn’t enough, FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem is reportedly under investigation for allegedly interfering over a Formula 1 race result.
The BBC reports that a whistleblower has told the FIA that Ben Sulayem allegedly intervened to overturn a penalty given to Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso at the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
F1 is becoming a juice channel!

"Get Out" was a disturbing allegory about how blacks are forced to conform to gain acceptance in white society. It won an Academy Award for best original screenplay, but the mood was oppressive throughout, as you say.
I thought the more straightforward horror of "Us", his second film, made for a better movie. Peele likes to have hidden meanings come out near the end in clever ways, not a surprise for someone whose hero was Alfred Hitchcock.

It makes perverse sense that he must always sit close to Horner.

Ref.: The Dirt Reduction Saga:
It seems very hard to understand what is going on ....
While it didn't help to understand the problem, I found it amusing to read the comments to the articles on this issue at "The Race" (https://www.the-race.com). Some conjecture that Jos Verstappen has a very intricate plan (to maximize the long-term prospects for Max), while others say, "no, no - he's not a thinking man at all ...".
