Herr Doctor has asserted his power again: De Vries out and Danny Ric in. A short lived F1 career for Nyck and a weird comeback for Daniel, or do they promise Checo's seat if he does a descent job next to Yuki?

The Red Bull machine grinds on. I will be interested to see how the much vaunted toothsome aussie goes against the Ninja. I hope Yuki thrashes him.

very good Rene, incidentally just watched the lollipop F1 British GP thingy on Youtube, absolutely brilliant and so accurate -
It was clear that De Vries's days were numbered the moment Mr Haliwell - sorry Christian was alleged to have said he never wanted him in the first place, not really giving the young man a chance are they? I have just read a bit on De Vries's reaction and he said it was a multi-year contract including a seat alongside Max in 2025, fizzy drinks have done it again haven't they?

Daniel Ricciardo is bound to do better at racing than announcing. I still remember his banzai passes and rate him considerably above average. As a rookie, he totally outperformed the vaunted Sebastian Vettel, not what Red Bull had intended and for which the team's genius aerodynamicist suffered a few sleepless nights.

I have never taken to Riciardo. I find him irritating and don't rate him above Valteri Bottas.

I agree Daniel was/is above average but I also agree probably not above Bottas. I never liked his (too) late plunges that really left the other driver no choice. And I don't like the 'shoey'. But he's a nice guy who can be very good on his day. Let's wait and see if there are any good days at AT on the horizon for Daniel.
As for the 2014 season, he certainly made a big impression and drove very well. He did outshine Seb but I never thought he was better. Seb just didn't like the new generation of hybrid cars and it took him half a season to get his mojo back. After that he was faster than Daniel but then his mind was already in Maranello. In 2015, Seb was fantastic again and proved he could also win in the second or third best car.

Vettel was a great driver who was at his best in cars custom-tailored to his preferred driving style, an advantage that continues at Red Bull for its number one driver. Vettel was fast and competitive after he left, but never won another championship.

Ricciardo is not one of the best. I rate him considerably above average, but never as fast as Valtteri Bottas, the clearly better driver*. Neither was able to avail themselves of opportunity and are now past their prime on career downslopes. One measure of a driver is how he performed as teammate to Max Verstappen. The dangerous and childish brake test at Baku may have been Max's worst tantrum. www.skysports.com/f1/news/12433/11363892/daniel-ricciardo-v-max-verstappen-two-years-as-red-bull-team-matesAmong other pertinent considerations, the disgusting dirty shoe champagne flute is reason enough not to want Ricciardo on the podium. He does annoy sometimes and I would not want to sit next to him on a long flight.
* How did he come into this?

Can other drivers do this? If one can do it, it’s Danny Ric for sure… and maybe Russell. A hidden talent.

I suspect he may have been spanked as a child for being nice.

So the days when Red Bull's team #2 functioned as a test-bed for young, up-and-coming talents seem to be over ... With that move, it seems like it's all just about harvesting as many points as possible, also for the "junior team".
