I came across these photos the other day. Firstly a very amusing shot of Richie Ginther taken by the great Bernard Cahrier and secondly an early(ish 1960) of the great Dan Gurney. Scratching my head to think what the car is, possibly an American owned Ferrari sports car, apparently it is Riverside so come on Carl I need your knowledge.

John Charles, Great photographs! There's no clear indication where Dan Gurney is parked, but my guess would be at Riverside's infield paddock entrance waiting to be scrutineered. Is his good friend Ginther at Monaco?
Cheers, Carl

Interesting photo of Gurney, in a common long-sleeved shirt. Makes you wonder if he's ready for racing or just ready for a trial run. (But if a polo shirt, like those used by Fangio, Moss, etc., was suitable as race-wear, then why not a shirt.)

Richie Ginther definitely at Monaco Carl. Also interesting detail that you feel Dan is on the way to scrutineering at Riverside; any thought on the car?
I think that Dan like may others raced in everyday "dress" shirts Mikael, it was far less formal back then if one can use such a term. Hap Sharp always wore an everyday shirt and Chinos when he raced Chaparrals in the mid 1960's and at that time it did begin to look rather strange compared to all of the other drivers wearing race suits.

Several minutes of research aided by an American perspective...and voila! The car is Max Balchowsky's late 1950s hybrid of hot rod and sportscar, Old Yeller.

Many thanks Carl, I knew that you would be able to unearth the facts. I had forgotten all about Old Yeller, what a beast of a machine. I only became aware of its existence a few years back on some blog site or other, it did not really make itself aware on the traditional UK mainstream motorsport journals that I read as a kid. I bet Daniel Sexton rang the neck of that beast, or as they say in some parts of the UK, gave it the berries! John Charles

Any Scandinavian country is fine by me, just something about those Northern European places and people.
Interesting to see dear old James wearing GM Vauxhall sponsored clothing; Hah! the early rear drive Cavalier and the little Chevette.
We will never see the likes of James again; his star burned bright for a short while and he epitomised the hedonism of the 1970's to absolute degree. The squandering of riches and a life more poor made him a much better human being, sadly all too short as he was taken far too young.

Emmo in cool seventies style.
It often struck me, when Emerson Fittipaldi took his first World Championship in 1972, aged 25, he looked much older than 25. Now aged 72, he looks much younger than 72.
