Mikael,
Jack Brabham was also still winning races four years later and could quite easily have been world champion with more luck in 1970. Of course the most famous and successful over 40 driver is the great JM Fangio.
Incidentally Kimi is now over 40 and this British GP was his 20th in succession which must be some kind of record. Unfortunately this could be his last as it looks like Alfa Romeo are very keen to get Bottas if he is to lose his MB seat in 2022.
No doubt in my mind that Alonso would still be a winner in a good car, I have been impressed with how he has got up to speed in recent races, looked very racy at Silverstone and seems to be enjoying himself.
JC
P.S. Shame you deleted your post about two leg races as in motocross as that could have been a good topic for debate.

wonderful chaps, thanks to you all - this thread is very entertaining
firstly thanks to Rene for that wonderful clip of an extremely talented young driver enjoying himself in an F1 car, you know I am rapidly becoming a red car fan, these two lads are real class and then to cap it all a picture of Black Jack with his beard at Zandvoort in 66, so funny and of course he had to win that day, incidentally had Dan stayed at Brabham that year would he have been WDC? and then Carl, many thanks for that wonderful trip down memory lane, although my memory played tricks on me as I thought John had overtaken Rene in front of us, and of course he hadn't, unlike the Mansell cheers, the cheers for John were just so heartfelt and a warm tribute, such a respected driver and great commentator,
the thing that struck me was the comparison in overtaking between 40 years ago and last weekend - when one was prudent and chose his moment and one wasn't

sorry chaps for some reason I am duplicating all my responses, This is probably a quirk of proboards.com, but take care not to repeat crawling beneath the wire at Brands Hatch as track security may have your name on a list of scofflaws. Cheers, Carl

having admitted to my crimes of some 57 and 56 years ago, I did it twice, do you think this represents a ban from Brands Hatch?

Apparently, RB is not going let it rest: "New evidence will put Silverstone F1 crash in ‘slightly different light" Red Bull advisor Marko told RTL on Wednesday that the team would use the hearing to “bring new facts that were not available to us at the time of the race interruption or when the whole thing was dealt with”, revealing its primary focus had been on Verstappen’s condition at that time.
It's going to be fun in Hungary...

Although Marko will not divulge what it is that RB have in hand about this hearing it has been speculated that they have telemetry and data that proves Lewis Hamilton was travelling faster into Copse Corner than at any time in the race and even with a lighter car running with far less fuel onboard. Maybe even comparisons available with the similar overtake on Charles. This could get tasty .

is it me or does this remind me of 1976 and Ferrari and McLaren? where the racing became almost secondary to the shenanigans of legality, etc,
Hungary is a circuit I have visited and 'live' it is a nice little track and as a spectator you do get up close and personal, which may well happen to these protaganists this weekend...or perhaps as fans we could suggest an alternative to Max and Lewis having another set-to and put Tonto and Dr M in a cage together and let them discuss the matter...
