Great stuff Carl. I took the liberty to move this entire thread to the new 'Other stuff' section to give it a lift off... Great move René, and nothing less than I would have expected . So I will now answer some questions etc from the Slot car thread that we took over with aircraft talk . Firstly many thanks Rob for the detail about the Eduard model of the Hawker Tempest re size and also that Hannants Uk have it for sale. I note that they have the Royal Edition (containing two models) and as you mention at a fair price, I am so tempted but if I buy it to be shipped over to France it will gain a £75 Importation Tax now that the Uk is a third country, so therefore would have to get it sent to family or friends in Uk and collect it when I am finally able to travel back to the UK, Covid permitting. Many Thanks Carl for that wonderful detail about the Super Fortress, that certainly had some fire power, and needed it. Back in the 1950's and early 1960's my home's about 20 miles from RAF Fairford which became USAF base at that time and had the Boeing B47's based there at the height of the Cold War. Most days on a clear day one could look up and see the vapour trail from these monsters as they headed west, they always seemed to be going in that direction. Later in the Iraq war they had the later B52's based there.

other 'stuff' as we are aware Jim's tragic anniversary was Wednesday, I would normally take a trip to Duns to pay my respect, maybe later on this month I will, but in the meantime Peter Windsor did a big piece of of over an hour of Q+A's only the first question was about some technical thing about today's fizzy drinks car, so will re-visit that when I get the time, and see what he does talk about Jimmy, I asked him if Jim ever recorded any meaningful times in the Lotus 56, I ask as I only have seen static pictures of Jimmy sitting in oh what could have been and tragically wasn't

You created a beautiful model, Rob. A wingspan of 38 inches is breathtaking! Did it travel with you?
Cheers, Carl

Wonderful model Rob. Beautiful weathering as well.
It must have been a fair size and as you mention later a wing span of 38inches is not small! ,makes a 1/48th scale Tempest a mere pip squeak.

Fantastic model Rob! Your painting and weathering techniques are really fantastic. Love the Popitt illustration on the nose, a nice tribute to your beloved pet.

fabulous Rob, what a great model, I have tried to complete a model of my favourite plane the De Havilland Mosquito some time ago, but realised my abilities lie elsewhere,

Hey Chris I have a 32nd scale Mosquito to build, one with the four canon nose. Trouble is I don't think I would have the space to display it so have held off building it. Maybe I build it and you can display it if you have room. The fun for me would be in the building and if somebody else gets enjoyment from it then that's a double bonus.

Rob, that would be fantastic, thank you - I have a number of books on the Mossie, and did read somewhere of its successor which never fought but was even more astonishing, the name escapes me, but for me the Mossie was just such a wonderful machine, so successful and so deadly, a thing of beauty and grace which sounded glorious, and fast, very fast. thank you Rob!
