Just a quick note to say that at 10.00 Eastern Time the 2021 Sebring 12 Hours begins.
No doubt some of you will be able to watch it on the IMSA web site, if not tune into Radio Le Mans who will be showing the full race live on their site, the IMSA races can be viewed fro a drop down menu on the main site.
After the brilliant Daytona 24 Hours race a few weeks ago this is something not to be missed. Got to say that I will be rooting for the Chip Ganassi Team as they were so close at Daytona.

Thanks JC for posting this. The live stream on the IMSA website and app is apparently only for the US but the Radio Le Mans stream works just fine, thanks! imsaradio.com/index.php/live-video/

Of course it might have territorial restrictions which may prevent you from doing so, if you can however you would be saved from Leigh Diffy . The Radio Le Mans commentary team are sound and very knowledgeable, my preferred choice over any other four wheeled motor sport commentaries.

John, An excellent thought, but the restrictions you mention are in place. In recent years, the double-down on dumb duo of Leigh Diffey and David Croft has tested my enthusiasm. I don't know if the Seth MacFarlane weekly animated comedy, Family Guy, is shown in Europe, but Diffey sounds a lot like the obnoxious baby character, Stewie. I deploy the mute button and enjoy the silence. - Carl

Because all the Chevrolet engined Cadillac DP1 teams are about the same underneath, I usually root for the driver, not the team, so Sebastien Bourdais winning the 12 Hours is cool. My early favorites were Scott Dixon, Kevin Magnussen and Renger van der Zande, and van der Zande's pass of Pipo Derani for the lead around the outside of Turn 1 was awesome!
The early hours were exciting and competitive, becoming delightful after some enlightened fans chased Leigh Diffey from the broadcast booth. I didn't watch the final three televised hours because night racing is more enjoyable for me in person.
I really like the new LMP3 class, slower even than the GT LeMans category but which no doubt would hold my full attention and be a challenge to drive. A nice addition.

I had a feeling it may have been Geo Restricted as so much is these days. Sad in a away that you have to turn the sound off due to a commentator get on your nerves Carl as you miss the sound of those wonderful V8 Cadillacs, they are worth it alone.
Due to encroaching tiredness I could not watch the last 3 hours which was regrettable as the end, like at Daytona sounded excellent. Unfortunate that the Ganassi Caddy lost yet again, as when I left the scene Scott Dixon was running away at the front after the big accident yellow, his overtake for the lead upon racing commencing on cold tyres was truly astonishing.
However great that Sebastian Bourdais and team won after fighting back from a lap down, I carry so much admiration for Sebastian following his comeback from that horrendous accident at Indy, many would have retired after that.
Although very bumpy and rough Sebring looks nothing like the old venue to my eyes, but still a challenging circuit with hints of "old school".

John, The best laid schemes of mice and men "gang aft agley", as do my own. I also love the sound of a big American V-8 racing engine and try with some success to mute only Leigh Diffey.
As you perceive, the course has been shortened and otherwise modified over the years, primarily for safety reasons, but is still old school and very bumpy.
Cheers, Carl

Renger's pass was awesome as you say Carl, he knows how to make a pass! But a feel good win for the French trio, good for them. I hope Ferrari will also compete in the American races when they return to sportscars in 2023...

But it was cool to see a young Mauro Forghieri address the confusion and assume charge. "Cosa vuoi dire che la porta non si chiude? Andretti, hai scoreggiato di nuovo"?
John Greenwood, briefly shown, was a Corvette specialist whose race cars later in the 70s remarkably approached the top speeds of many prototypes at LeMans. I hold Ferrari in high esteem, but the development of the 512 may have been as hurried as that Sebring pitstop. Until Penske and Donohue's 512M, its design and performance were both awkward compared to the long-tail 917s.
When they take their time and get it right, the Scuderia is always welcome in America
Ciao, Carl

Don't you just love the Italians for this? I know I do. It's just a matter of too much passion.

Ah! The John Greenwood Corvette's, absolutely monstrous machines. Believe it or not it was quite difficult finding some period shots of the cars, particularly the wonderful 1976 car, lots of current renovated/historical pictures. However I found a couple here that clearly illustrate these marvellous vehicles.

Just by way of information the IMSA Round from Mid Ohio is live this evening at European time of 21.00hrs. Could be good viewing on the Radio Le Mans site with the excellent commentary that this format usually has.

The IMSA Endurance Sprint race from Mid Ohio last evening was excellent, two and half hours of top quality racing. For the most part it looked like Dpi Mazda of Harry Tinknell was well in command with a superb drive backed up initially by his team mate Oliver Jarvis, however a late full course yellow changed the complexion of the race and Ricky Taylor chased by Felipe Nasr went head to head for the finish. Added drama ensued when it became apparent that fuel would become critical and as they entered the last few laps some of the DPi's headed for a splash & dash, but not Taylor or Nasr who raced on running on what must have been fumes. Even Ricky's dad Wayne could be seen at the pit counter head in hands not knowing if his car was going to finish the last lap.
Both cars did, and finished very close together on this wonderful traditional race track. Kevin Magnussen recorded a new track record for Dpi cars as he raced back up the field after failing to adhere to the race start protocol and gained a penalty. Kevin was very quick indeed which made the comments from the Radio Le Mans commentary team about him being inexperienced in these cars somewhat uncalled for, just a glitch in an otherwise excellent transmission by a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic team.
Interestingly during the race there was a short discussion about the farcical F1 track limits ruling, a simple solution they said was bring back grass verges as that would deter anyone going over the kerbing, right too.
One has to be full of admiration for all the drivers racing in these series as the speed difference between the different classes is profound and the skill in weaving between groups of slower cars is something to behold, none of this "namby pamby" get out of the way once you are blue flagged in F1. Overtaking a slower car is a skill even in the sterilised world of F1, or at least it should be.
