John, I apologize for the earlier overhead image, a cool photograph but a bad choice because the purple line served no purpose. As you correctly perceived, the entire course, including the dogleg section ("the boot"), was used by IMSA on Sunday. The fast chicane along the back straight called the innerloop was added in the early 90s to slow traffic appoaching Turn 5 after several serious crashes.
A better overhead centered on Turn 5 and the boot
Cheers, Carl

Missed out on this one (busy with other stuff last week) but it sounded like a good race!

Missed out on this one (busy with other stuff last week) but it sounded like a good race! As endurance races sometimes do, the excitement cascaded as the end approached and the last 30 minutes were the best racing I've seen so far this year.

Fantastic, Carl. Mesmerizing almost. Sportscar racing at its best. Thanks for sharing.

Carl, Many thanks indeed, I was not really certain as I might have misinterpreted some parts of the track but looking at the Google image you attached the fast downhill left through the trees more or less confirmed it for me. I did think that you had done the overlay in purple to show the track used hence the question. John

Missed out on this one (busy with other stuff last week) but it sounded like a good race! IMSA will have another event at Watkins Glen tomorrow, a shorter sprint race to start at 6pm New York time and race into the night. The three prototype and two GT classes, some classes slightly reduced, will race to make-up for an event cancelled earlier this year.
