It is hard to stop collecting once you start, I have so many that I do not know what I do have at times, well all the time really . Built 1/43 kits; unbuilt 1/43rd kits; Tamiya 1/12th similar; Spark, Minichamp and Quartzo 1.43rd built and then flaming 1/32nd Slot cars. Didn't I read that Mel Ault is producing a resin kit of the Matra MS80 in 1/32nd scale, that should go well with the 1969 Lotus 49B's; Brabham BT26 and McLaren M14 etc. Nice group of the BMW Junior Team there. Great photo of the three musketeers! Eddie looks so young! You're right about Mel Ault. It's ready to order now on his site.

Rene a lovely collection and enjoy it. I know what it is like to collect models etc. I had over 50 locomotives in my model railroad. I have an above average collection of Model Factory Hiro kits which I will never build but will be selling them off over the next couple of years. Rob, I hope you don't sell them all. Have you brought those beautiful Model Factory Hiro Ferraris with you to the UK?

Wow! Rene, you could recreate great races from the past with full and accurate grids! With other slot-car enthusiasts and a shortened account of events, you could replay the 1978 Canadian Grand Prix, with you of course as Gilles Villeneuve.
What an awesome collection!

Oh my word Rene. What a fantastic collection indeed. Congratulations. I never knew that one could even get slot cars like the ones you show. Everyone of my dream cars is there with the exception of the MS80 which I am sure is in the process of being rectified. Jeepers I would never get out of there. Thank you for showing me.

Wauw René! - just amazing!
As to the blue European University-sponsored Ferrari: the small "Michel Vaillant" stickers just in front of the front wheels are interesting too. They must refer to the cartoon character/hero we discussed here some time ago ... ?

What an awesome collection! That is the idea Carl. It's a continues trip down memory lane in a way. When I read about a driver or race or watched a documentary or when we talked about a certain subject here on the forum, I love to take the corresponding cars out of the cabinet and take them for a spin. And when I don't have that car, I try to find it or build it myself.

Thanks Rob, I knew you would appreciate it. There are so many cars now commercially available it's unbelievable compared to the old days. And more models are being released every year.
Unfortunately not so many Ferraris from the 60s but I do have several good resin bodies (the 1964, 66 and 67 cars) that I still need to build into running cars. And indeed also the Matra MS80. And a lot more stored away in boxes...

Yes, that certainly refers to the comic book character. This car raced at Le Mans so it was probably to promote a new comic book or maybe the movie. Should look that up.

words fail me, what an amazing collection Rene, in awe - Thanks Chris. Actually, this is by far not all.. But compared to some, this is still a reasonably modest collection. Just have a look at the collection from this guy from LA. As he says himself: "I am here as the example you show your girlfriend, boyfriend or goat to explain how you have things totally under control and are not crazy like me." Don't forget to scroll down and click to the next page where he continues... Farrout's collection

René that collection of yours is absolutely outstanding, jeez I bet you dare not calculate how much that not so little lot cost, and is probably worth now. I notice you have a fair amount of the wonderfully charismatic Cartrix 1950/60's cars which are more traditional in construction and design than many manufacturers products today. I have a couple stashed away somewhere, the Jo Bonnier BRM and Peter Collins Lancia-Ferrari.
Fabulous; fabulous.

I better not start calculating the worth and not even thinking about my 1:18 Exoto models! That's what happens with collecting year after year I guess (although I have slowed down a bit). And what is the real worth? I know I have some collectors items that I could sell for good money. But if I really needed cash and wanted to sell the complete collection then who would buy this? The worth is relative then I guess.
The Cartrix cars are fab indeed. You're right that these are quite simple cars and unfortunately not always the best runners and build quality, certainly given the price! But they are so charming I couldn't resist!
I upgraded a few of them with Slot.it running parts, brake discs and BRM classic wheels (see banner image above). A night and day difference in performance and looks.

René I had noted the improved wheels on the banner photo featuring the Cartrix 1950's GP cars, they look so much better than when they arrive in the box after purchase. The BRM Classic wheels are truly spectacular, and with Slot-It running gear that must transform the cars. Cartrix slot cars are very much made like the slot models of old but with a modern twist and with the quaint tin box; cleaning cloth and perspex stand really have something unique and as you mention charming.

In honour of my favourite driver an overview of the 'Gilles' slot cars I have in my collection.
You would expect a lot of models commercially available but that is actually not the case. I think every car Gilles ever drove is made as a die cast model but not as a slot car. But there are a few which I want to show you here. And you can also build things yourself of course... This is one the rarest models. The CanAm Wolf Dallara. Not a very good slot car with wrong proportions and even worse performance but it's a nice collectors item. This is the Lancia Beta Montecarlo from the Fly Classic range. Gilles was partnered by Walter Röhrl and Christian Geistdorfer in the Giro Automobilistico d'Italia 1979. They won but were later disqualified because Röhrl took a shortcut somewhere. The McLaren M23 by Scalextric in which Gilles made his spectacular debut in the 1977 British Grand Prix. The 1979 Ferrari 312 T4 in Monaco spec. The model is by SRC. The T4 in Canada spec. The 126CK that Gilles drove to an unlikely victory in Spain 1981. I made this model myself. And four projects on the work bench:
- On the left Gilles' company car, the Ferrari 308 GTS. It was a Scalextric rally car that I am converting.
- Next to it, the March Formula Atlantic car which I am building/converting from a Fly March 761.
- Third in line a resin body of the 126C2 from George Turner Models. I think I will make the Long Beach version with the double rear wing.
- And on the right an old Scalextric of the 312 T3. Not a very accurate model but I think I can make something descent out of this.
Sorry again for the slot car overload...
