Yes, and I will be watching. NBCSports has 18 hours of planned coverage, at least several minutes beyond my endurance! But I am excited to have louder and faster racing once more and hope the 24 Hours are close and competitive throughout!
Also today is Round 3 of Formula E from Santiago, Chile, with your very fast countryman Robin Frijns a very close second on the grid!

I've been mesmerized so far by the great racing at Daytona! Right now my plan is to watch the first three hours and resume taping the race when I wake up tomorrow for the last four hours. The race is so good that people there will have a hard time deciding to sleep. It's as close and exciting as anyone could hope for and I'm hoping to hear from our resident endurance expert, Jamie

Great racing in Daytona! It's pooring rain now but the speeds are still mind blowing. Alonso is leading in the Cadillac and his driving is absolutely world class. Good for him to be in competitive machinery again. Watch this guys, the racing is fantastic! imsatv.imsa.com

Thanks for putting this up René. I watched several hours of it late last evening by streaming the cast through an HDMI cable from a laptop, absolutely superb. I haven't watched racing as interesting as this for ages, its about to go back on again very soon. Not a fan of Teflonso but boy he was driving superbly last night in Wayne Taylor's Cadillac, this is what endurance racing should be like with so much going on and in all classes. Am I correct in thinking that there wasn't a "Hybrid" in sight .

The rain became so heavy that the race was paused at the 22 hour mark, Fernando Alonso's pass of leader Felipe Nasr into the first turn proving providential as the downpour continued and the race was not restarted.

That was a good race, enjoyed it very much! A bit disappointed it ended premature and I wish the battle between Alonso and Nasr would have lasted longer but I have seen some great racing. I wasn't a fan either of what Fernando had become in F1 but boy can he drive. The protypes may not be the prettiest of cars but they do look impressive when at full speed on the banking. Yep, a good start of the racing season.

That was some excellent viewing over the weekend; I really enjoyed the hours I spent watching this years Daytona 24 Hours. very disappointed about how it ended but the conditions really were terrible and it was prudent to stop when they did. Although it has to be mentioned that those cars looked mighty impressive with the roosters of spray behind as they circulated the banking, and others actions of the track.
Alonso was impressive of course, but so was Nasr on the restart after the safety car, and contrary to what was being reported on screen he was actually pulling away at some rate from Alonso 4.5+ seconds before he ran wide and let The Tef by. Also many on various sites are raving about Tef's drive, but according to the commentary team Kamui Kobayashi was equally impressive and fast.
Although I am not a great fan of these modern day "prototypes" with regard to the looks department, I have to say that the Daytona Prototypes aren't too bad, just a shame that there are only two distinctive body types. The variety of engines however is another plus point.
Excellent I really enjoyed that, and the TV coverage by IMSATV was superb.

Yes I agree JC, it was not only Alonso who drove a good race. His teammates Kobayashi, Taylor and Van der Zande were excellent also. And so were Nasr, Rossi and all the other drivers who made this race so interesting. The racing in the GT classes was also great fun to follow. Great event.

I was surprised by the sustained close racing! The coverage on NBCSport was thorough and professional, also nice to see. According to the commentators, the Action Express team engineer informed Felipe Nasr during the morning rainfall that he was faster everywhere except under braking into Turn One, where the final pass occurred. Both drivers undoubtedly knew their strengths and weaknesses and Nasr must have asked too much of his brakes at the end and gone wide under pressure.
Great racing!

Hi all,
I’m so glad that IMSA put on a great show....well worthy of this fantastic series, I believe it’s their 50th anniversary this year. My favourite racing series bar none.
It was an enthralling race for the most part, pity about the rain but the on track action was brilliant at times. And Jeez, Alonso did a great job, showed his class for sure but, as has been said, his teammates were equally magnificent. I watched / listened to the majority of it as it was so good, I should have been working but sod it 😂
The Joest Mazdas were very strong early on but that little 4 pot is still fragile over the longer distances it seems, they’ll be right up there in the shorter races......it’s going to be a competitive season. It’s amazing that the new track record was set by a Mazda this year, beating the previous best by PJ Jones in one of Gurney’s Eagle Toyotas in 1993! Shows how fast the old Group C / IMSA GTP prototypes were.....
Great racing in all 3 classes this year, IMSA are really getting it right at the moment (ACO take note).
As an aside, for those of you that listen to Podcasts, have a listen to the ‘Marshall Pruett Podcast’. There are a couple of crackers about historic Daytona’s made recently, one an interview with P J Jones about the aforementioned lap record in the Eagle and another with Jim Busby about his team’s win in 1989 with the Porsche 962, Del Bell’s last major 24hr win. Highly recommended 👍

Jamie! I was sure you watched the race and we were missing your comments! What a cracker of a race it was, hey? Great stuff which obviously most of us enjoyed. The IMSA championship is really good, always was. As you say, ACO could learn some lessons here. If the balance is right, endurance racing can be just as interesting as Grand Prix racing.
