If Robert Kubica goes to Williams, the team will instantly be my favourite again. Looks like it's firming up! www.autosport.com/f1/news/139942/kubica-in-frame-for-2019-williams-race-seatI don't much care whether he's quicker than Russell or a shade slower - just hope he's not TOO slow, if he's going to be slightly off-song due to driving one-handed. And I don't much care whether the Williams is hugely fast, as long as it's a bit more competitive than this year's dog. What a story. I can't see Robert choosing a test role with Ferrari over a race drive at Williams, though you might imagine Kubica being a good wingman for Leclerc if Leclerc puts Vettel to the sword and Seb skunks off into retirement with his tail between his legs... or if Ferrari decide to sack the German. Leclerc and Kubica at Ferrari for 2020? Stranger things have happened. Kubica will be 34 years old in December.

Robert is another but for fate would definitely been a WDC and it would be so good to see two real racers at Williams after the dross of this year, I also think Robert will be able to support Russell develop so fingers crossed that we get the Williams we deserve
No I can't either, but as you say Bill - stranger things have happened and Ferrari have never feared sacking people so maybe

Robert was good. He is not good enough anymore unfortunately and certainly not as good as Seb! Vettel will become world champion in 2019 for sure. 100%! Leclerc in 2020.

I haven't really been following his pace in Free Practice. Is he certainly sh*t? Sirotkin apparently outpaced him at the test. Definitely outpaced him for funding. I dunno, I think Robert might surprise with his speed if he were given a race seat. It's possible that you are wrong, Rene. I hope you are proven so.

I thought Robert Kubica was a certain world champion and I'd like him to have a chance in a competitive car. It would be fantastic to see him on a podium! From there who knows, maybe the top step?

it would be great to see Robert in a Williams, if, for nothing else to give Williams some of their self-respect back and maybe attract some more decent sponsorship

That's an interesting link Bill, certainly from Kubica's viewpoint his opportunities are looking bright. Its odd that he didn't mention the previous rumour about him going to RP Force Stroll to continue his mentoring of the young Lance. But after all the hype last year about the seats he was going to get, I'm a bit skeptical, but Kubica will have been back from Brazil for a few days, so we should know the outcome very soon.

according to MotorSport's excellent journalist MH, Kubica is confirmed in the William's seat next year, now, Mark also alludes to the understanding of what was wrong with this year's car, so fingers cross and yessss! Team Willy rides again,

Team Willy rides again, Great news Chris, it is on other sites as well. Williams are desperate to turn things around after this seasons debacle with a terrible car and two inexperienced and not top drawer drivers; they took the filthy lucre to survive me feels. Now we have a wonderful story of Robert returning, more or less doing the impossible, and the signing of a shining new talent in George Russell. Make no mistake Mr Kubica will not be propping up the back of the grid as he still has some speed.

Team Willy rides again, The article by Mark Hughes is very good, he is obviously a huge fan of Kubica. For Kubica to have fought his way back into an F1 drive, after 8 years and those horrific injuries, shows that he must be a hugely determined person as well as a heck of a driver. I'm assuming that Kubica and his backers have found a bigger pot of money to bring to Williams, to help to make their decison easier, or maybe the severance deal with Stroll makes that unnecessary. Fingers crossed that Williams have figured out the problems with their car, and can build something competitive next season so that Kubica and Russell get to show their talent and aren't condemned by poor equipment as Stroll and Sirotkin may have been.

This is obviously a really good story for formula 1 and great for Williams and Robert.....a real feel good story for once👍
I am concerned he’ll come back and only be mediocre though....he was right and the apex before and I do hope he will be again, but I’m really not sure he will be.....
Is this a Williams resurgence? I hope so.

Great news. Even getting to the start in Melbourne will make a fantastic story of grit and determination, anything else after that will be pure magic. Right up there with Niki Lauda, Douglas Bader and others who have suffered horrendous injuries and refused to give up.

Agreed, Rob, an amazing story.
But... assuming they both complete all 21 sessions, what will the qual score be between Kubica and Russell?
Haha, me and my qual scores eh? I'd like to think it will be 18-3 Kubica, but I reckon that kid has some potential.
Close? 12-9 Kubica? 12-9 Russell? I don't actually know, Marsh, I think you're a better judge on this one... I'm finding it tricky.
