After a turbulent and spectacular race in Argentina, what will the US Grand Prix bring? I guess no one knows so bring it on!

Well Marquez has to be odds on favourite as he is unbeaten at the Circuit of the Americas. However there appears to be a lot of very unhappy riders after Argentina, particularly towards Race Direction for their lamentable inaction. Most seem to feel that "elbows out" and some "rubbing" is fine but deliberately running into another rider is bang out of order, Marquez (quite understandably) and Petrucci are at the head the line and facing the most criticism for their conduct.
Interesting times.

Interesting , as I am watching the 'no spoiler' first practice as I write, again this is Marquez's to lose but nice to see Scott up there, I think if Marquez gets a clean break no-one will touch him, but I suspect there may be some retribution from somewhere, or he will try it with someone who won't budge and they both fall,
I have voted for Dovi because of that grunt and his cool head

Hard to see past Márquez but I’ve voted for Zarco as a dream result.

Given the, i think unintentional, [or rather i hope] blocking of Maverick by Marquez and the subsequent slap-on-the-wrist I am reminded of a parallel with F1 - firstly with Ayrton and his 'punishments' and secondly with Michael whom I felt was the worst transgressor since Farina, where in so many instances Michael could have been effectively 'managed' by the FIA [Australia 1994 - Jerez 1997 and too many others to mention] but all he got was a limp-wristed slap on the knuckles and so continued, as is Marquez, the problem is that like Michael it encourages that sort of aggressive driving/ riding that seems accepted, and in motorbikes it is far too lethal a sport to let this continue. Just ask Dani
the other aspect of that is who it attracts to the sport, where the ghouls with sad lives enjoy the misfortunes of others, so hope against hope we have a really 'clean' race with no "argy-bargy" but like Michael we can admire that incredible skill of Marquez and the ghouls can return to their world

Absolutely Chris 👍 I’m also hoping for a clean race so we can start to put the shenanigans from Argentina behind us and focus on the racing again. I do hope Márquez tones down some of his more over exuberant tendencies, there is nothing worse in a person than a highly developed sense of entitlement and I sense that building within him. What an incredible talent he is so I do hope he’ll clean up his act a little. I also hope Rossi cuts back the rather over the top comments he’s prone to make, such as after Argentina. He’s a master of mind games and I don’t like to see anybody dampen their passion, but it just makes him look silly now in my opinion and that really aggrevies me as a huge Rossi fan.
I’d really like Zarco to win this. Herve Poncheral strikes me as a fine fellow and his team deserves a few wins for all the good work they’ve done over the years.

A four place grid drop is nothing, he could lead the race by the first corner, the penalty is a joke but to be honest not a surprise. The condemnation of the BT Sport team was complete and unequivocal; Colin Edwards was asked if he thought Marquez knew Maverick was behind him, and Colin said "he knew he was there, as a rider in quali you know someone will be there".
Here is race controls statement :-
"At Turn 15 you were found to be riding in an irresponsible manner being slow on the racing line and disturbing another rider," said the FIM MotoGP Stewards Panel Notification of Sanction.
"This contravenes Article 1.21.2 of the FIM World Championship Grand Prix Regulations “Riders must ride in a responsible manner which does not cause danger to other competitors or participants, either on the track or in the pit lane"
"For the above reasons, being the first offense and taking into account the degree of seriousness of the offence, the MotoGP Stewards Panel has decided to impose on you a Grid Penalty of 3 positions."
What I like is he bit about it being the "first offence", how many penalty points did he rack up in Argentina!!!!

I do think there is a great many good riders out there like Zarco and Tom Luhti whom i rate very highly and it would be great if the apple-cart was upset once in a while if Zarco did win - here's hoping
totally agree John, it is as if they are saying, ok Marquez, you do what you want and it is ok - wonder where this will end? I was just speaking to another fan who is convinced Marquez will take someone out and they will get hurt, i do so hope not - i really do

I was just speaking to another fan who is convinced Marquez will take someone out and they will get hurt, i do so hope not - i really do I have the distinct feeling Chris, that they almost want this controversy as it gains more attention, just as did Ayrton and Michael's actions in F1. After all Ezpeleta has in the past expressed admiration of Ecclestone and the way he ran F1, and his wish for MotoGP to be similar. Talk about chickens coming home to roost. The thing is this, is Marquez bigger than the sport, and with that in mind are they "scared" to suspend him as he is "Box Office". He displays no meaningful contrition what so ever; even when he says "sorry" it is just for the cameras and bears no meaning. He will hurt someone someday, if not himself. His crash yesterday was unnecessary and hugely lucky in that he gained no injury. It was luck full stop, not skill that the bike did not flick up and crash down on him as he belligerently held onto the bike when most sane individuals would have let go. I really hope that Zarco wins soon and many times, he is class and so analytical about matters when being interviewed. I think Maverick has something for Marquez today, and knows it. He did his "pole" lap on mediums front & rear and knew this wasn't the fastest one lap set up, but knows for the race he is looking good.

I don't have opportunity to watch MotoGP, so I am not sure what is going on, but by the silence of the forum it seems it wasn't the right guy who won yesterday...

I didn't mind seeing Márquez win, he's a phenomenal rider after all. But it wasn't the most exciting race to my eyes. But maybe I was already too much focussed on the Indycar race at Alabama which slightly overlapped with the MotoGP race. Watched MotoGP on the iPad and Indycar on the tele at the same time. But that race was red flagged due to heavy rain... I looked forward to a few hours of racing but it was all a bit of a let down... but at least the Indy race will be resumed this evening.

Yep I looked forward to the Moto GP race for two weeks and though I really like the race track and some of the photography was spectacular the race itself was no so great once MM hit the front. Highlights were the way Pedrosa hung on and the performance of the Suzuki. Marquez rode well.

It was the least exciting race for quite some time but they can’t all be thrillers I suppose. Márquez was on a different planet, as he often is at COTA, and the race was over on lap one. Good to see the Suzuki up there on merit and maybe Maverick is getting his Mojo back.....not one to remember.

Well said, Rene. The Alabama event was like waiting half the day at a train station. There may be a design element of the new cars that sends out more spray and heavy rain and water pooling at low elevations made triple jeopardy. -Carl

Just watched the live report of the race at Barber and I very much enjoyed that! What a great race track. Beautiful scenery with natural elevation changes and a lot of grass instead of endless tarmac. What a joy! The racing was great and a well deserved victory for Josef. Wow that guy us good, I really like him. Some great overtakes also in the race, descent slipstreaming and good moves. Yeah, really enjoyed this one.
