I received the May issue in yesterday's mail and it included a lengthy readers' survey, which they wanted returned by today! I noticed the option to take the survey online and so I let them have my opinion straight, no chaser.
Did I like the new section showcasing overpriced watches? How many watches are in my collection? What brand would I choose if buying today? The one with most snob appeal and price tag attached, I responded.
There was little room for elaboration. I got the impression the editors are groping for direction.

Ridiculous Carl isn’t it. I hope you told them all about the value of your investment fund and classic car collection to.....
That survey read like some extreme capitalism manifesto....

Carl, I noted the survey online and thought something was afoot! I don't do surveys, full stop, so they had no chance. It takes some believing that it would contain what you guys have come across, are they linked to Facebook? I do jest . They obviously think that their readership is a wealthy one.......delusional or what! WB & DSJ would turn in their graves. John Charles

i'm intrigued Carl, how you managed to get your copy and mine has yet to grace my doorstep,
MS emailed me with the survey which i duly completed as i want this magazine to develop - i do miss Damien I do think he did a good job by comparison to the present incumbent who does not impress - in fact there has only been one month that has been very good the rest of his term has been average at best,
as you say John - WB and DSJ would be screaming in frustration

Are they always so late? I especially miss William Boddy, but also Jenks for his unique slant. I proposed a somewhat naughty way to keep WB current by inserting beautiful women into his road test passenger seat by clever use of photoshop. The silence was deafening...

I am wondering if that refrain won't be heard a bit more in July... Chris, Not unless Zak Brown or Gene Haas misbehave. I won't be there, although I'd love to have a choice spot at Stowe corner and would be on my best behavior. Also, the refrain from those women long ago was an invitation to accompany them home, so I was a welcome Yankee, at least a few times... Curiously, the origin of "Yankee" may be a very early Native American mispronunciation of "English", a word totally foreign to the sounds in their dialect. A disparate theory holds that plantation slaves in the antebellum South, having decided the wealthy patrician owners sounded like geese when talking, coined the contemptuous descriptor "honkie". Both theories are entirely plausible, but neither can be proven. Keep in mind that this comes from an avowed Anglophile. When I was in London for two weeks, I had the strangest sense of being close to home. Even small details such as window latches seemed familiar. Cheers, Carl

Anyone know if Nick Trott has left the magazine, or is he just on holiday?
Joe Dunn is the editor this month, no mention of Nick?

well it finally arrived, and in the editorial clearly states Joe Dunn as editor, and in his Matters of Moment he does say thank you to Nick Trott who has left to pastures new, and Joe says he is the new editor, I did quite like Joe's style so fingers crossed that the magazine develops into its potential

To my way of thinking all this turning over of staff does no look good. Nick Trott wasn't in office for one full year, and that after the big clear out. Joe Dunn seems OK but time will tell.

I haven't received a MotorSport magazine for the last two months! Probably because I didn't renew my subscription. I have just been onto the MS site and low and behold I see that they have extended their coverage of expensive watches to include an article on some. The article appeared right next to the latest column from Mark Hughes. Talk about mission creep, this is ridiculous. Anyway I felt it was important to let them know my feelings.
