Just to draw your attention to something gents.....
For those of us who have access to UK Sky tv, the Motorsport TV channel (sky 447) has a new series of interviews by Peter Windsor starting with Mauro Forghieri this Friday night at 9pm.
Should be interesting 👍

This is interesting, shame I have only Freeview, but never mind.
Forghieri is 83 now, but he looks fifteen years younger, and has been "itching to talk" for quite a while, if I may put it that way.
He has written - with the help of journalists - two autobiographies in the last ten years or so, and last summer I picked up in Italy a new book of his on the technical side of F1 with interesting considerations.
The issue with his autobiographical recollections is that he's not always fully reliable, memory lapses or embellishment get in the way here and there. But obviously always worthwhile listening to. Also a video interview should be more straightforward, less "belaboured" than writing it.

Yes, he's an interesting character so I'm looking forward to this one. Peter Windsor has a YT channel so it may well appear there in the near future.

Last evening I viewed the Mauro Forghieri interview on the FreeSat channel Motorsport.com, it was most interesting particularly his description on the Ferrari P4, the rest was about two drivers; Chris Amon and Gilles Villeneuve.
Although supposed to be an interview it looked more like two separate talk sessions, with Mauro talking about things and then bits of Peter Windsor doing a "talking heads" interjection as they most certainly were not in the same room together doing an interview as we know it.
Mauro obviously had the highest of regard for Chris, and immense fondness. There as a lovely bit where he described the after events of the 1968 French GP, he was in the paddock and heard banging noises coming from the Ferrari transporter. On on inspection he found Chris inside banging his head against the side of the truck. "What are you doing Chris" asks Mauro; "I have been with this team for 18 months and haven't won a race, Ickx joins last night and wins the GP".

I concur with your summary John and enjoyed the programme; Forghieri is a really interesting guy and I could of watched a lot more, would have liked to have heard about the Lauda years for instance and the T series. I'd hope there may be further sessions but probably not....
His obvious deep affection for Chris Amon was a highlight as was the fact that the P4 actually generated underbody downforce...and that the spyder version was actually better because the roll hoop acted as a rudimentary wing, fascinating.
