Pole position for Max Verstappen. His 8th consecutive pole, equalling Ayrton Senna's record! So well done to Max, that is an impressive achievement, certainly after the setup issues they had yesterday and even this morning. That was a super lap. Very strong quali from McLaren and Oscar pipping Lando to the front row. A bit disappointing result for Ferrari in 4th and 5th. They were not fast enough in sector 1 which cost them too much time. But their race pace looked good so still all to play for. If Max doesn't disappear in the distance tomorrow, we could be in for an interesting race.

Piastri's penalty means that Charles Leclerc starts from number three slot, the same that Tambay started from in 1983.

The last 10 laps were exciting. And that disguised the fact that the rest of the race was not that exciting. The circuit is fantastic, the passion for the sport is still great in Italy, but the quality of the racing is substandard as almost nothing happened. The only really positive thing is that Max no longer wins by half a minute. McLaren is almost there and Ferrari still has a small step to go. Maybe then it will be a bit more exciting. But the circuit itself is a hundred times more beautiful than the F1 circuits in the Middle East and the US.

I agree about the debased quality of circuits chosen by Formula One. We should remember that the degradation of motorsport under the tutelage of the poison dwarf Ecclestone and crypto-nazi Mosley included the venues themselves. Even the most historic venues had to dance to their discordant tune.
Only Ken Tyrrell knew what was happening when the other team owners accepted a depraved miscreant partnered with a predatory private equity firm to lead Formula One to greater glory. Tyrrell warned to no avail that the goal was to strip assets. Case in point: Long Beach has been a great success from the beginning, leading Ecclestone to demand an exorbitantly higher sanctioning fee, leading Long Beach Grand Prix founder Chris Pook to simply switch to Indycar and continued success. As a precondition for a Grand Prix to be held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2000, Ecclestone demanded the famous race control Pagoda structure alongside pitlane be renovated with luxurious offices featuring padded leather interior walls! He got what he wanted. The reasons Miami and Las Vegas were chosen as venues is an abundance of private capital for investment and ample luxury accomodations nearby. Far better racetracks like Watkins Glen, Road America, Mid-Ohio and Barber Motorsports Park were rejected because money talks loudly. And money demands luxury. Would you want to attend a race where there are no 5-Star hotels? Of course not...

Most definitely Carl, it’s all about money. There are so many great race tracks in the US but those are only interesting to race fans… and who needs them? People with Rolexes is what we want!

Money, greed and egos have ruined far more than just F1. The current televised F1 is a microcosm of the world, shown in all its glory, in wonderful colour and with a sound track where the F word is used more than any other.

Egomaniacal greed has always led to catastrophe. Is Francis Ford Coppola a visionary close to the truth?
