First win for Porsche in the new Hypercar class! The #6 Porsche (Estre, Lotterer, Vanthoor) took control from the middle of the second hour. Drama for Peugeot when Jean-Eric Vergne slowed down on the penultimate lap with mechanical problems while in second position. Difficult weekend for Toyota and Ferrari. The BoP (Balance of Power by adjusting weight and power levels) used in WEC hits these teams the hardest. Toyota had a good qualifying but were nowhere in the race. The Ferrari #50 took an early lead but both factory cars had technical issues early on and lost a lot of time. The yellow #83 car was the highest placed Ferrari in 5th. I didn't follow it as it was yet another Middle Eastern circuit that is - well better than some and I was busy elsewhere - pleased for Porsche -
Rene, would it be very cheeky of me to request a new picture for the WEC season please? I know the Mazda was successful but it was the noisiest thing going and I just think despite it being based on the Jag a new picture would be gratefully appreciated

I actually like the Mazda because it won on my only visit to Le Mans in 1991. But I'm sure you will like this new banner...

He could sit at LeMans...that would be okay with me Only sit, no driving? I'm sure he'll choose a seat with adjacent steering wheel and pedals. It will be interesting to see how Vettel compares with today's young hotshoes.

At least one Ferrari fastest in practice. Yifei Ye set the fastest time in the opening practice session in the customer Ferrari #83. The factory Ferrari of Antonio Fuoco was second and the Peugeot of Mikkel Jensen third fastest.

F1 qualifying did not go as expected for Ferrari, but at Imola there was plenty to cheer for the tifosi. Under the watchful eye of John Elkann, it was a 1-2-3 in qualifying for the Ferrari Hypercars. The yellow Ferrari in the sandwich of the two factory cars! Forza! 1. FERRARI AF CORSE 499P #50 A. Fuoco M. Molina N. Nielsen 2. AF CORSE FERRARI 499P #83 R. Kubica R. Shwartzman Y. Yfei 3. FERRARI AF CORSE 499P #51 A. Pier Guidi J. Calado A. Giovinazzi 4. PORSCHE PENSKE MOTORSPORT 963 #6 K. Estre A. Lotterer L. Vanthoor 5. PORSCHE PENSKE MOTORSPORT 963 #5 M. Campbell M. Christensen F. Makowiecki 6. TOYOTA RACING GR010 HYBRID #7 M. Conway K. Kobayashi N. de Vries 7. BMW M TEAM WRT M Hybrid V8 #20 S. Linde R. Frijns R. Rast 8. TOYOTA RACING GR010 HYBRID #8 S. Buemi B. Hartley R. I was hoping for Ferrari glory at Imola but Ferrari managed to lose this race while it was theirs to take! A strategic error when the rain came blew their chances for victory. They were leading the race with two hours to go and when the rain came they stayed out too long. What I didn’t get was why they didn’t split strategies as they had three cars to play with. Toyota took an unexpected victory and showed again that they are still ahead when it comes to strategy. But besides the disappointment, it was still a great race to watch. The battle at the end between the #7 Toyota of Kobayashi and the #6 Porsche of Estre was exciting. And Ferrari’s Antonio Fuoco was on fire, by far the fastest man in the race. But the Scuderia lost a lot of points in the championship while they could have been leading. A shame.

6 hours of Spa-Francorchamps The WEC circus has traveled to Spa and the weather forecasts are good for this weekend in the Belgian Ardennes. It will once again be a battle between Ferrari, Porsche and Toyota for overall victory. After the painful loss in Imola, Ferrari will go for revenge and the first signs in FP1 are good with both works Ferraris fastest. Surprising to see the speed of the Lamborghini in third. It would be nice if they could join the fight at the front. I myself (probably) won't go this time. Too bad, but the race is on Saturday and I have other things on the planning. But I will certainly try to see as much as possible from the live coverage.
