1967. Ferrari 1-2-3 at Daytona. No Ferraris at the start of this edition but I hope IMSA and WEC will merge one day.

1967. Ferrari 1-2-3 at Daytona. No Ferraris at the start of this edition but I hope IMSA and WEC will merge one day. A classic photo finish. They were not on the same lap, but a podium 1-2-3 after 24 hours is still monumental. The scorned and bitter Henry Ford ll may have been angered by Ferrari's touché ...

have been watching it on and off thanks Rene, and am a bit taken aback from the number of yellow flag incidents - notwithstanding that Daytona always fills me with loads of positivity, hurrah the season is starting - yes! what with that and WSB testing and John's namesake is already ruffling feathers - tee hee John will be smiling about that.

I must have a remarkable memory to still recall the Donohue / Parsons win in 1969, when I was a baby. Roger Penske looks really old while I'm in the springtime of my youth.
I really enjoyed the final 90 minutes, very competitive near the end, especially between Felipe Nasr and Tom Blomqvist in top prototype.

I didn't realize it was that long ago for Porsche at Daytona. It was nice to see them win again and very deserved it was. The last hour and a half was very exciting. With modern endurance racing, it's a matter of keeping your car and drivers as fresh as possible for that last sprint. The Porsche and Cadillac were very closely matched and Nasr almost lost it a couple of times near the end. The white flag confusion was a bit strange but an extra lap would probably have made no difference anyway. The racing season has begun. Stunning car, that Porsche 963!And a Ferrari victory in the GTD Pro class! Also beautiful, the NART Ferrari 296 GT3.

It wasn't made clear on the broadcast that the 55 year gap was for Roger Penske, not Porsche, who have 19 overall Daytona victories and last won in 2010. The 1969 victory in a Lola T70 Mk3 was basically inherited after the faster GT-40s and Porsche 908s all faltered or dropped out, although the superb talent of Mark Donohue qualified the Lola on the front row, surrounded by four longtail 908s A remarkable 17 year old, Connor Zilisch, shared the LMP2 win for the Era Motorsport team. When I was that age, I was still learning about oversteer.

Ah yes, I misinterpreted that. Well, it's early season and my racing brain is still rusty.. But I enjoyed the race!
