Started work on a 1/12 scale 312PB from the 1972 Monza race. Oh wow, very cool Rob. At 1/12, it will be very detailed I assume. Looking forward to your project! Here's some inspiration. I just love the 312PB more and more, it is so good it could be a Lotus .

Thanks René and Charles. Will take a couple of months. That one will be an incredible project Rob and no doubt it will weigh a fair bit as I take it that it will mainly be resin and white metal castings along with quite a substantial amount of photo etch.

Yes Charles mostly white metal and resin with some photo etch but less than on the 1/24. I guess the scale means some of the parts can be in white metal. The bodywork, engine block and gearbox are in resin whilst the tub, suspension, cam covers radiators etc are in white metal. The rivets were quite prominent on the real car whereas on the kit they are depicted by little indents. I am busy drilling these out and replacing them with 0.8mm white metal rivets. I have over a 1000 to do but I find it very relaxing especially if a play some good music through my ear phones.

Rob, Rather you than me putting all those white metal rivets in place, but the end result should be amazing. I am very surprised that a company such as Hiro have not done something better than indents on a 1/12th scale car costing that much, disappointed actually as that is what one would expect on a 1/43rd kit. However you will be making that model a work of art by your own hand. John Charles

Started work on a 1/12 scale 312PB from the 1972 Monza race. I’d love to have a go at something like this when the GTM is complete. Any chance of regular build updates Rob (cheeky) 😉

I have finally finished all the rivets and partially assembled the tub. Now working on the bodywork as the lead time is long on this and so affects the critical path of the project. I wanted to put pics on but for some reason can't. I am incredibly inept.

Could you see the pic of the tub Charles? I have spent about 70 hours so far and am currently working on cleaning up the body before painting.

Rob, The only image that I could download from your attachment above was of a two part section with rivet detail, not the tub. It is very easy to spend that amount of time on cleaning up castings etc, especially on a /24th kit. I used to spend hours on my 1/43rd kits but was always working to a deadline to finish them for the magazine articles. JC

Hey John Charles Congratulations on hitting god status. 1000 posts, whew that's incredible just for the effort concerned let alone the amount of valuable information you have disseminated to us mere mortals, René excluded from the mortal part. Thanks mate it is a real pleasure discussing all things with you.
