Although I have a new major Ferrari project planned, I thought it was time for something different! This is a PreWing brand kit of the Williams FW06. A beautiful resin body shell with a 3D printed chassis and engine and suspension detailing. I started it today and it's already taking shape. Mainly drilling and sanding the resin body and then a lot of fitting and measuring. It's starting to look like it and this could be finished quite quickly, but we have to wait and see whether the weather is still good enough to spray paint. In any case, it will be a nice addition to Scalextric's recent releases; the Brabham BT46 and Lotus 79. I will show these soon too. My planned Ferrari project will also be an addition to this grid. But first the Williams!

Very nice Rene. Always liked this Williams for it's elegance and simplicity. I knew Williams were going to become serious contenders when I saw this car. To my mind the first that looked like a mission focused F1 car rather than the bitsa appearence of the previous ones.

Thanks Rob, it is as you say a very elegant little car. A good design with an eye for detail and build quality.

Finally freed of having to wheel and deal for bare minimum budgets, wealthy sponsorship allowed the first professional, well-funded Williams design. Clean and purposeful, everyone knew it meant success. I always saw the FW06 as adolescent to the maturity of the FW07.

I always saw the FW06 as adolescent to the maturity of the FW07. I see what you mean, even if the FW06 had a classic seventies style wedge shape and the FW07 was a ground effect car. But as you said, the clean and purposeful approach was very similar. And Patrick Head clearly had a very good understanding of the wing car/ ground effect principle for the FW07. Great cars, those late seventies/early eighties FW's. And that Saudi money certainly helped!
