Thank you Rene for the emails and well wishes. As it stands now just as I joined the group it was found that I had a problem. A small tumor was found in my bladder that was cancerous and I had surgery to remove it.
I'm happy to report that they removed it all, found it was stage one and that no further action was needed other than check ups to make sure it doesn't come back.
This has taken weeks of recovery but here I am on week 5 and back to my studio and the work I do there.
On to the introduction and this will be hard to keep short but I'll do my best.
My name is Steve Neill. I grew up in the 50-60's around my dad who was a racer himself. We went to the track together. I met his friends that were famous drivers and spent time in their garages where they worked on their amazing cars. So race cars, sports cars, Indy, F1, SCCA are in my blood. As a young man going up in the bay area my first car was a TR-3. I used to drive that car and others over the years to my home track. Laguna Seca where I would spend the night in the parking lot under the tonneau cover before the race.
My dad and I also loved drawing art. He was an amazing professional illustrator and model builder. We raced slot cars together and built large custom tracks for our homes. I still have one today and I still race.
I also like to build the slot cars from scratch because I prefer the golden age of racing.
This is one of my scratch builds of a T-73 Cooper.
And one of my builds still under construction.
I came to Hollywood in 73 and have had a career in film visual effects, special makeup effects, and as a producer and writer of films. I worked on many projects from Star Trek to Ghost Busters. You can see much of my portfolio on this wordpress site:https://steveneills.art.blog/
I used to post a blog there weekly but I moved blogging to SubStack which I find a much better venue for this sort of thing located here. It's much easier to sort through:

You are welcome to subscribe. It's free and covers much of the work I'm doing today including cars.
When I came to LA for my career in Hollywood I did so in a TR-3. Later I bought a Bugeye sprite which I drove the wheel off of. I always had a sports car. I have owned so many. Spitfire, MGA, MGB, MG 1100, Lotus Cortina, 1964 Alfa Veloce Spider, Fiat 850 Coupe Abarth and so on.
For the last many years I had a 1985 300ZX which I recently sold and bought this latest gem. A Classic Fiat 124 Spider. This is a project car but the best part about the car is it's been gone through mechanically from engine to suspension. And it runs like a top. Doesn't even leak oil which is amazing for any Italian car.
This car resides at my studio in the back bay-garage. I have big plans for this car like a new paint job and I'm slowly replacing and renewing the interior.
That's the short story. If you want to learn more about my background just do a google search:Steve Neill American artist and you'll get quite a bit.
Aside from the Fiat(which I plan to autocross) I'm about to build an all wood track for home. My current track is plastic and since I was a kid (I still am) I have always desired a wood track at home.
What caused me to find this forum was slot cars. I found a post-thread about the construction of a wonderful wooden track here that taught me I didn't have to use a router to make one.
The idea that this is not just a place for slot cars is fine with me because the entire sport of racing and a site that is all encompassing is just great to me.
The hobby of cars and racing (or any hobby for that matter, I fly model airplanes too) are extremely important and contribute greatly to longer, happier lives filled with passion and excitement for the next day.
Glad to be here and thank you.
Today is a good day to race!
