Max Verstappen was unbeatable again in today's Canadian Grand Prix. Fernando Alonso was brilliant to finish second in the Aston Martin, Lewis Hamilton held steady in third and Ferrari did well to salvage fourth and fifth. The penalty assessed against Nico Hulkenberg was so absurd that the stewards bent over backward to condemn it and several came close to tears...
The alternate broadcast by Daniel Ricciardo and Will Arnett was so bad, it made David Croft look good. Whoever decided there was no need for preparation should fall on his/her sword.

That sums it up perfectly Carl. Don't know why but I somehow enjoyed this race, at least more than Barcelona which is a boring track. Montreal is always great action and the gaps were quite small. Of course, as long as the Red Bull doesn't break down, Max will win the race. He drives super well but there's also no pressure, so much is his car advantage. I believe he could win by a much bigger margin if the need was there. And what's wrong with Pérez? Having an 'off weekend' happens to the best but three in a row? He is not an Max's level, not even close but he should be closer than he's now and at least equal to the Aston Martin. Talking about AM, Fernando is driving fantastic and in the meantime crushing his teammate to powder, despite all the nice words. What a weak race from Lance in front of his home crowd. Happy about the Ferrari performance in the race. This was the best they could do and they got the strategy right this time. The car's pace was actually quite good but they must find a way to string a good weekend together. And what was that all about when they were telling Charles that Carlos would not attack him? Was Charles that pissed after qualifying that they felt they needed to reassure him??? Anyway, when Max clinches the title in July or August, they must send him off on a long holiday to Brazil and put Danny Ric in his car so we can have an exciting end of the season.

Interesting to read about a careful optimism at Ferrari after the Canadian Grand Prix and Helmut Marko even stating that the Ferrari was the fastest car in Canada and could be the biggest threat next weekend in Austria:
Marko, meanwhile, said that while Alonso and Hamilton came closer to the top step of the podium in Canada, it was actually the Ferraris with the strongest race pace. "Let's see," the top Red Bull official, 80, told Osterreich newspaper on Wednesday. In Montreal, Ferrari had the fastest car. And now the Red Bull Ring suits them. If (Charles) Leclerc starts from row 1 or 2, it won't be a walk in the park for Max."

GrandPrix.com I hope his assessment is correct and bodes well for Austria, but if I heard Helmut Marko tell someone the time, I'd look at my watch.

And you're right of course, Herr Doctor is always playing games. But.... Ferrari's race pace in Canada was actually very strong. The strongest of the season so far and on par with Red Bull. But was it track specific or did they find the sweet spot by coincidence or have they really made a step forward? We will see next week.

I also liked the simplicity of earlier helmet designs and although I always supported Jacques I never quite understood his design whereas his Father’s was distinctive and rather elegant
Jacques I felt was rather defensive and brittle of any mention of his Father in his earlier days but let his guard down once at Goodwood when he drove his Dad’s T3 and used a helmet that was in his Father’s colours and spoke very emotionally of how he prayed to his father at the start line and although I can’t remember the words they were very evocative
