Looking good so far. Ferrari claims provisional pole in first qualifying! On Thursday there will be the so-called Hyperbole shootout between the eight fastest cars. Cars progressing to Hyperpole: Hypercar#50 Ferrari AF Corse #51 Ferrari AF Corse #7 Toyota Gazoo Racing #8 Toyota Gazoo Racing #5 Porsche Penske Motorsport #75 Porsche Penske Motorsport #3 Cadillac Racing #2 Cadillac Racing LMP2#28 JOTA #41 Team WRT #63 Prema Racing #48 IDEC Sport #10 Vector Sport #47 COOL Racing #923 Racing Team Turkey #9 Prema Racing GTE Am#83 Richard Mille AF Corse #54 AF Corse #33 Corvette Racing #25 ORT by TF #57 Kessel Racing #55 GMB Motorsport #21 AF Corse #74 Kessel Racing If they can't win in F1, at least they have a fair chance to win Le Mans.

This weekend the 91st edition of the 24 hours of Le Mans! The 91st edition and it is also exactly 100 years ago that the first 24 hours were held on the circuit of La Sarthe. A very special edition that will be made even more special by the return of Porsche and above all Ferrari as factory teams at the highest level. I've seen the iconic photograph of the first race many times and it always intrigues me that most cars have positive camber on the front wheels although, with most weight on the front axle, negative camber would optimize handling.
The #8 Bentley in the photo finished fourth and recently sold for almost $4,000.000
The top finishers were photographed below. First and second place were French Chenard-Walcker Type U3s (#9 and 10) having 15CV, equivalent to 7 1/2 2CVs! The Bentley is second from right, minus its right headlamp. Strangely, the protruding #1 (largest tyres and wreath) does not appear to be the #1 seen at race start.
Good luck to the very talented Lilou!

Just happened, by chance, to watch a portrait on a local TV channel of a racing team located just in this area (mid-Jutland), a team called GMB Motorsport, running three Aston Martins in the GTE Am category.
In another thread we discussed the space mission-level of the F1 teams. But the level of a modern privateer team like GMB Motorsport is also very impressive indeed. I believe their workshop and surrounding facilities would beat those of any Formula One team up to, say, the mid-80's.

I guess we really have seen the peaks and troughs of sports car racing - from the banner image to the heights of Group C to the dearth to the heights again, and then not so good and now we seem to be heading towards another golden period, t'is a shame that F1 drivers don't partake as even I would be cheering on Ferrari with Charles and Carlos amongst their drivers, mind you if Jaguar returned that might stop - oh for Jaguar to return wouldn't that be something special and then perhaps Mercedes?
to the 91st - practice looks interesting - I must confess to being pretty busy at the moment so haven't watched much at all, what with the TT and all but these new machines actually excite again, real racing is making a return, will be watching this weekend, amongst the other events and am hoping that the race proves interesting.

Some great racing so far but the race has been under safety car for more than an hour now! Rain and cars sliding off and repairing barriers takes a lot of time. Ferrari looking strong so far and a Peugeot surprisingly in the lead at the moment. Charles on sight to support the team.

Ref.: Le Mans in 1923, 1973, 2023 - and in between.
Interesting how the premier prototype/endurance series has toggled between open and closed sports cars throughout the years. With the introduction of the "halo" in the FIA formula classes, however, I guess we will never again see open cars at Le Mans.

It’s a great race! Not good for my nerves though. My heart stopped for a moment when the Ferrari #51 did not seem to start again after the pit stop. But a great pass to take the lead again. Super super close between Ferrari and Toyota.

Wonderfully compact racing cars, the present generation of endurance (hyper) cars - real racing cars! Something here to study for the Formula One regulation deciders/authors ...
