Rider and fairing blend into a mass of advertising. They say you need to be one with the machine to be fast.

Rider and fairing blend into a mass of advertising. They say you need to be one with the machine to be fast. And even at slow speeds, if only not to fall down!

Lost in an amazing weekend was another Italian team (ok owned by the Germans) complete domination of a circuit that they constantly test on,
On a more sobering note another Honda rider suffered a serious injury with Alex Rins suffering a broken tibia and fibula and what with Joan Mir also absent due to yet another injury and Marc Marquez doing his usual routine of following a quicker rider during qualifying and then crashing out trying to keep up I am getting quite concerned that this is not going in a good direction and am starting to fear watching the racing
Aprilla and Yamaha both had poor races and one wonders how the Ducati’s performance can be challenged, well maybe KTM have some answers and some very good riders who will get stuck in
We now have 3 races on the trot and then a break is it all too much

German Grand Prix - SachsenringLots of racing this weekend with also MotoGP at the Sachsenring. Johann Zarco fastest in the rainy FP1 and Marco Bezzecchi fastest in FP2. Marc Marquez had a freaky collision with Zarco coming out of the pits. Fortunately, it ended well for both, but you wonder how Marquez still dares to get on a bike at all!!

That incident was so scary I really thought Johan was seriously hurt and Marc’s reaction very poor but apparently they spoke to each other later on and shook hands, not quite sure I would want to shake hands especially as I was being blamed for being there
Will anyone stop the Ducati army? It doesn’t look good, KTM are looking the most likely to challenge, not sure what is happening with Aprilla but they really need to step up, as for Honda they are running out of riders and that’s not even funny and Yamaha are looking a bit more like it, but still don’t look likely to beat the Dukes

Dutch Grand Prix - TT AssenThe circus has descended on the TT circuit in the Netherlands, the Temple of Speed! Bezzecchi is the fastest so far and Marquez has fallen again.

I was away for this race but managed to watch the highlights, Ducati’s dominance is on a par with the fizzl drinks in F1
Assen really is the cathedral of racing having been there many years ago the atmosphere is amazing, the best news was definitely Moto2 with Jake Dixon breaking his duck and winning his first race, opening up the possibility of a MotoGP ride in the future with maybe Yamaha
Honda are having a nightmare of a season or seasons with both exSuzuki riders injured Marquez injured as well and nothing going well for them, what with Yamaha also struggling Dorna are now suggesting concessions for them and they may well allow this,

there is a good article in this months MotorSport with Mat interviewing Jonas Folger who was a rising star with Herve until his illness got the better of him, and is now filling in for yet another injured rider, and he is comparing the rider input from a few years ago sans aerodynamics, ride heights etc, and if this rings any bells with F1 fans it should do as aerodynamics are spoiling MotoGP as well, probably why Moto2 with their beautiful 765cc Triumph engines, and its not as if I am biased towards the Triumph Triple having owned 5 and the current one finally taking me back to the places my Sprint ST's took me, not quite on handling and I may try putting some wings on [just jesting] but the power output is now comparable anyway I digress Moto2 is sounding more like Formula 2 with a purer racing pedigree with less dependence on Adrian and his followers, which has filtered into MotoGP
In my humber opinion we are going down a very poor route with Ducati effectively dominating both MotoGP and WSB, and not doing bad in BSB and with Honda in both MotoGP and WSB having a bad time together with Yamaha one wonders if Dorna will be pressured into have these devices banned and aero's minimised,
My other issue is the role of injuries that are going on, with Alex Rins and Joan Muir cursing Suzuki daily and out for the foreseeable future and both seeking ways out, and the bigger news that Marquez is also talking of moving on because he keeps crashing and he has discovered he is not invulnerable. Pol Esparago is now being seen but all these serious accidents are a worrying sign and I just hope sense will prevail before a more serious incident occurs.
As a fan of Scott Redding [wonder why?] he had a marvellous last race at Donington, scene of his first GP win many years ago finishing a brilliant 4th behind yet another Ducati 1st and 3rd, we don't know what is going to happen with Scott next year now Toprak has signed for BMW which was a real shock but hopefully he will find a winning seat

I was surprised to see that NBC will televise Sunday's MotoGP from Silverstone. It's been years since top-level motorcycle road racing was shown here, so I will have to rely on my memorybank from round table discussions about the riders. It's probably too late to cheer for Kenny Roberts.

Something magical about the screaming two-stroke engines of that era :-) They were simple too, yet with some almost unbelievable applications of physics, like the expansion chamber exhaust, where fresh gasoline-air mixture is exhausted into - and then reflected back into the cylinder, to be used.

British Grand Prix - SilverstoneThe summer holidays are over so the MotoGP boys have to get back to work, this time at Silverstone! A surprising FP2 result with Aleix Espargaro as fastest on the Aprilla. Second Jorge Martin and third Brad Binder. Marc Márquez and Fabio Quartararo outside the top 10 and therefore not through to Q2 qualifying.

Golden years for bike racing. I remember that time quite well, also because of Dutch rider Wil Hartog who was a regular front runner at the time and sensationally won the TT Assen in 1977 as a semi professional. His nickname was 'De witte reus' (the white giant) because of his white racing suit and tall stature.
