The first major race of the 2023 season is scheduled for next weekend. 24 hours of racing on the spectacular Daytona track. The first showdown is over with last weekend's qualifications. Pole position for the Acura ARX-06 driven by Tom Blomqvist who beat Felipe Nasr in the new Porsche 963 by 0.083s. However, Nick Tandy's second Porsche ended up in the tire wall and will have to start last! motorsport.tv/embed/YjK6PFFn-rolex-24-blomqvist-s-acura-beats-nasr-s-porsche-to-daytona-pole

René, Thanks for the reminder! There are some supercool new GTPs and an abundance of excellent drivers. Colton Herta is in BMW's #24 GTP and the almost ancient, always excitable Helio Castroneves is still very fast. In LMP2, there are Josef Newgarden, Scott McLaughlin and Rinus Veekay, also from Indycar ranks, and the always smooth and fast Ryan Dalziel. Two other Dutch drivers, Giedo van der Garde and Job van Uitert, are on the same LMP2 team and several more both from Holland and Denmark in the GT classes, including Magnussen patriarch, Jan, in a GT Daytona Porsche GT3! It should be a great race.
It should be a great race.

been watching the highlights on youtube, i must confess the cars do have that terrible similarity but, don't they just sound so good, look good and are so fast, I am so pleased proper racing on a proper circuit just is such a great start to the year,
and the GTP's look brilliant, sound even better and some great drivers in both fields - love it, still miffed we won't be seeing them in the UK this year, very unhappy about that - gosh imagine them at Brands - now that would be interesting

Soon the start of the Daytona 24h!
Carl, can you watch the race live? Luckily it is broadcasted on the race channel to which I subscribed.

Yes, on two different channels I can see about one half of the 24 hours, which is fine with me. I'll concentrate on the start, the finish and about six daylight hours. Let's hope for a great race!

The last two hours, a Grand Prix distance, are always the most exciting of an endurance race. All the rest is just a build up with pretty pictures.

As our learned administrator predicted, the last two hours were the most exciting, close and competitive until the end. Tom Blomqvist bounced around different series for years, having great success in Formula 3 but scant recognition from top series. Red Bull had him under contract, but Helmut and Christian were too dense to recognize his talent. Steady domination over 24 hours by one team (Meyer-Shank Racing) and one driver. Well done! www.motorsport.com/imsa/results/2023/daytona-24-hours-630656/www.autoweek.com/racing/more-racing/a42698388/imsa-rolex-24-daytona-results-meyer-shank-racing-acura/Whoever told LMP2 owner John Farano he had talent was either a fool or a bank loan officer. The graduate of Ferrari Challenge (a series for rich fatboys) messed up seriously twice, leaving his team down eleven laps, a huge deficit from which Josef Newgarden, Scott McLaughlin and 18 year old Kyffin Simpson, the remarkable newcomer from Barbados, managed to recover almost all the lost time.

Yes the last two hours were good. A very deserved win for the #60 Acura car! It was interesting to see the Cadillacs had no answer to the speed of the Acuras after several restarts. They still have some work to do as has Porsche. I'm sure that didn't go as well as they hoped for. But they will learn fast.
The LMP2 finish was amazing!

The faster the racetrack, the stronger the pull for the following car and an understanding of drafting, or slipstreaming, on the big ovals has won many races at Indianapolis and Daytona. Knowing just the right moment is crucial as, approaching the finish line, a car moves out of the draft with extra momentum for the win.
