I keep repeating myself but if Ferrari and Charles want to keep their title aspirations alive, they need to win this one. And preferably as Mattia said, a 1-2. But even if that happens and Max would not finish, then we’re back at the pre-France points standings… but hey, everything is possible and it would be good for morale. A twisty track where traction and good cornering speed is essential. Certainly good news for Ferrari but I also see a strong Alpine. Both Fernando and Esteban won their first Grand Prix at the Magyar Nagydíj circuit. Esteban last year’s and Fernando in 2003! Remember that one? I surely do as I was there and I will be there again this weekend! Going with my brother in law Raymond, we’re going to make an intense road trip to see the race on sunday. Looking forward to that.

Wauw! I'm only "slightly" envious
Have a good and safe trip, René.
If I remember correctly, the road trip may take place in a very nice car as well!(?)
P.S. The Ferraris may be the best on the twisty circuit!

That is one hell of a road trip, not actually sure of the distance but it must be a fair way. Only beauty is that as it is in the EU freedom of movement is guaranteed unlike anyone from the UK these days. Have a great trip and meeting and hopefully you will be there to celebrate a Ferrari one and two, we are hoping.
Could be quite hot though!

Well guys he day has come and Sebastian Vettel has just announced his retirement from F1 at the years end, probably seem my comments a while back. I personally think he is correct, but not from racing completely. He has not lost his talent but probably the killer instinct and desire which rounds a driver off.
Great words from his fellow former drivers was well, Lewis and he have been close of recent times, and Lewis words were very good.
Maybe LMDh beckons, I hope so wouldn't a LM24Hr win be ideal.

Thanks guys! @ Carl: I will pretend to be Italian and stay away from my orange countryfools as far as possible. And red doesn’t match very well with orange anyway. @ Mikael: We will not go with his Porsche this time (a 911 GT3 nowadays) but with a more comfortable Volvo… I know, boring. @ John: It’s a ridiculous trip, only decided last minute. Almost 1300km! And we both still have some work to do tomorrow so we will leave early Saturday morning and drive to Vienna where we booked a hotel. A few hours power nap and then to the Hungaroring. After the race back to Vienna and then back home on Monday. And back at work on Tuesday morning.

Hats off and bon voyage to you both, that is some way to go 1300kms. Good choice in the car though even if it might appear boring. Many classify the Volvo with BMW and Audi but without the stigma!
Lovely choice of Vienna for a hotel, on the Danube next to the Hungarian border, so you will be waltzing over the bridge to Hungary.
Really hope you see that Ferrari one & two on Sunday, as many of us do but to be there to see it, fantastic. Do I take it you are also doing Zandvoort and Spa this year, or is Zandvoort sold out again?

Thanks! It's a long drive but it will be fun. The Volvo will be much more comfortable for such a trip and the quality of that car is certainly no less compared to a BMW or Audi. I did a long business trip once in a rented full options V70. The best car I've ever driven for a long Autobahn journey.
Not going to Zandvoort as it is indeed sold out but I do have tickets for Spa.

Ferrari fastest in both FP1 and FP2 but a surprisingly fast McLaren with Lando only 0.217 behind Charles in 2nd. Max struggling with bouncing in 4th. The Mercedes car looked awful, no grip at all!
Tomorrow it could rain for qualy. If it's a real downpour as expected, the session could even be cancelled.
Enjoy the race guys! Forza Ferrari!

wonderful Rene, safe journey and lots of fun, that's my kind of idea of an adventure- one hopes you get rewarded with a scarlet victory - I do like the Hungarian GP, and was privileged to go there some years ago and its a good circuit to spectate at live so to speak - you felt quite close to the action and that was good.
It's funny how incredibly well Seb has evolved into something very special outside of the cockpit, he really does come across as a great advert for intelligence and awareness, hope you enjoy the retirement Seb
Lando was very impressive, as were the Ferrari's and listening to Lewis's incredulation just how much slower he was than Charles was quite surprising to hear - but that is where he is at

Just an "off on a tangent comment", related (slightly) to the talks about Indianapolis Motor Speedway (elsewhere) and the upcoming Zandvoort GP.
As to a common point of Indianapolis and Zandvoort, namely banked corners, it's interesting to note that the original Fuji Speedway (near Tokyo) also featured a banked corner.
As I can find out (from a little "googling"), the bankings of Indianapolis Speedway have inclinations of 9 degrees, while the banked corner of Zandvoort is inclined 18 degrees. The banked corner of the original Fuji Speedway had an inclination of 30 degrees.
From Wikipedia:

The banked corner of the original Fuji Speedway (from Wikipedia)
Here is good photo that I came across, where one clearly can see what Elford means with: "The reason that banking was so horrific, was that at the end of the straight we went over a blind crest at around 190/200 mph and dropped into the banking. At other tracks (Daytona, Montlhéry, etc.) you climb up the banking."

Have a great trip Rene, enjoy and may a Ferrari one-two be your reward. Sounds like a lot of fun though Tuesday could be long. As my mum in law used to say- "better a day after than no night before" or in your case weekend. Forza Ferrari.
