it's here again, via live stream Goodwood is showing it's best again - I am watching it via MotorSport and the colour is fabulous, I would point out I am working at the same time as watching this and listening to the radio, who said we couldn't multi-task?

Saturday highlights. The Can-Am cars were fantastic! So fast, they were allowed only a demonstration! Many of the historic Can-Am cars have accurate numbers corresponding to the drivers that made them famous. There was a brief glimpse of the Shadow Mk 1, one of Trevor Harris' amazingly creative designs, this one almost too clever but the others all race and championship winners.

FoS: Just been watching . . . that McMurty fancar And yesterday Lydia and myself caught Gordon Murray's T50 V12 Cosworth on the YouTube coverage. . . aural amazement!!! "No replacement for displacement" is arguably untrue in todays clever Turbo and SuperCharged world. NA V8, V10 and V12 engines: in terms of noise there really is no replacement for displacement

Thanks Andy! Yep, I wanted to put up a reminder of the FoS yesterday but forgot. It's always great to watch all those wonderful cars go up that hill! Will never forget my visit to the festival in 2009. Must go again... This is a nice one, Adrian Newey in one of Niki Lauda's Ferraris. Newey's wizardry may not always have been good to the actual racing in F1, but he sure is an enthusiast. Is he trying to get used to a red car with a prancing horse on it? By the way Andy, you're more than welcome to jump in any existing conversation on the forum. Modern or classic racing, F1, touring cars, sports cars, whatever rocks your boat...

Not sure about Adrian getting ready for the red cars though -

Not sure about Adrian getting ready for the red cars though - Me neither Chris. Maybe even Adrian isn’t sure yet but there is so much speculation going on. We’ll see.

The first Ferrari F1 car I ever saw, Kyalami 1974 SAGP. The first race with that airbox and Niki put it on pole. Loved it ever since.

Interesting to ponder that individual designers still can have superstar status in this age and in these times when the overall design of the Grand Prix car is already decided and penned by the FIA in all but the smallest of details (by - as far as I understand - designers who are basically anonymous). So the task of a designer like Adrian Newey is "just" to think out small aerodynamic appendages and otherwise, small twists to the basic FIA-design. Of course, the effect of these small details is large. Still, I find it hard to get impressed; at any rate, not in the same way as by, say, the revolutionary ideas of the past which simply stood F1 on its head.

Unfortunately, we’ll never go back to the variety of the mid seventies but even then some cars looked kinda similar because everyone copied the best ideas. But there definitely was more variation. Regarding modern times, you do wonder why the regulations can’t be written in a way that leaves more freedom. A maximum size box, maximum amount of fuel allowed and a couple of mandatory safety items..?
