Ouch! Charles loses the brakes on the 312B3 coming into Rascasse. His bad luck in Monaco continues, even at the Historic GP! But good that he’s okay. And now he definitely needs to win the real Grand Prix in a few weeks time.

And now he definitely needs to win the real Grand Prix in a few weeks time. Until then he was fantastic, fast, smooth and more assured than at Fiorano. I always thought Avon was second best, but they clearly have good compounds.

Jacky Ickx retains a babyface and now has a potbelly Yes he was, very smooth. He said afterwards he was enjoying himself and becoming more assured by the lap… until there were no brakes. He even scared himself a bit hoping not to get hurt! Some interesting comments during the race for cars between 1976-1980 with regards to the Avon tyres. It was said that the cars performed even better now than in period because of better materials used and better preparation but even more because of the Avon tyres which are simply better than the Goodyears and Michelins of the time. I also read about the Fiorano demo with the T4 that the tyres on that car were the same tyres that were on it in the museum! So that’s why they were so hard and gave hardly any grip.

The shattered brake disc on the Ferrari B3 clearly visible on this enlarged photo. So no insurance issues for Charles (and no dent in his ego)!
It's nice to see by the way how many classic Ferraris Charles has already driven. He obviously enjoys that a lot.

isn't it wonderful to see a modern F1 driver enjoying himself, it was a real shame that he had his misfortune and the noise these wonderful cars made, it was a bit awkward for me as the MotoGP was also on but managed to catch quite a lot of the sessions and especially enjoyed seeing either the green or black and gold of my beloved Loti. still miss them

everytime I tried to tune into this either via ITV it was full of gossip, ok it did feature the lovely Lee so I kinda half forgave it but I wanted to watch the cars and bikes, or youtube who are just saturating everything with adverts - which is so annoying-
however, it was was worth it for that most poignant of moments when Wayne Rainey rode his bike up the hill, what a moment that realy was - my word I am getting emotional just thinking of it now - and these electric cars are quick aren't they?

Chris I need to catch up on the highlights. I tried watching on livestream but it was as you said and I had other things to do. I watched the clip of Wayne Rainy and it was very poignant especially as I was watching him live when he had his crash all those years ago. It looked so innocuous at the time. The clip I watched was very short and only showed him going up the hill. I thought that maybe they would show more of him actually getting on the bike as that to me would have better illustrated his difficulty. Have you read his book? I thought it very special and very spiritual.

Hi Rob, No I haven't read Wayne's book yet, strange when I think about it I have only two motorbike biographies, Barry Sheene's and Dave Jeffries, I don't even have Mike's, but as you know I have a few motor car racing ones,
The clip and comments about Wayne were some of the most powwerful I have seen/ read and I treasure what I saw, especially with the other guys and Wayne's comments about feeling free - such moments memories really are made of
